Paying to have my site submitted to directories?

Hi - I for one have very little time to spend submitting my website to directories and things of that sort.

My question is, is it a bad idea to buy these services off of places like eBay? Just wondering what the rest of you think.

Here is an example of what I am referring to:

Look at the list of so called search engines and directories they supposedly submit your site to. I doubt you'll see much benefit from being listed in those search engines and directories (seems they have trouble distinguishing between a directory and search engine).

Submitting to search engines is not necessary and probably a waste of time. Building quality links to your site will get you indexed in the major search engines alot quicker.

Submit to the major directories yourself - avoid automated submissions done cheap. They're automated and you get what you pay for.

If you're going to pay someone to submit your listing(s) for you, make sure that they are doing so manually, that they understand the directories' guidelines and that they can craft a well written title and description that would be accepted at the directory their submitting to.

Repetitive automated submissions with spammy titles and excessive keywords in the description will usually do more harm than good. Why make the editor have to rewrite your description? Submitting a guidelines compliant title and description will give you a better chance of getting a decent listing.

Submitting to multiple categories in an attempt to obtain a listing quickly is not a good idea either. The incorrect submissions will probably deleted and the longer the list of notes associated with your site, the more scrutiny you're likely to receive when someone finally reviews your site.

Directory listings have their benefit. Don't let someone screw them up because you wanted to save a few bucks.

I agree with DebbieV. Thats what you should do. Don't go for cheap purchases to submit your site to search engines and directories.

Better do it yourself.

Personally I'd avoid buying anything from ebay if I can help it. While it's true that you'll get a good service from some very good ebayers 95% of the time, sometimes you won't and you have very little fall back.

At least with a reputable retailer you'll have a much better chance of getting things sorted out if it all goes pear shaped. And at the end of the day ebays reputation system is nothing compaired to a personal recommendation from semeone that you trust.

Go with DebbieV's advice...
