madkap - thanks!
JohnScott - I'm often too busy to eat! The pleasure and pain of running your own business I guess... I *think* I'm finding a little pleasure out of this whole thing somewhere... at least I imagine I do... somewhere.... somewhen....

Ah Greg, it's all pleasure. If it isn't fun, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah, I'm getting a PR from him, also.
It's $30 for the bare minimum and $80 to shoot the works.
Not bad at all.

Ok, I didn't make it to the forum on time to stick this post where it belongs... about 10 posts ago.
I think LINKS and SPAM will win this thing. Even though that is crap, I'm willing to bet it's going to produce the best results... in all fairness, the contest is running for only a few months, white hat SEO is king for long term but spammy junk pages work wonders for short term gain.
As a matter of principal I refuse to spam other people's sites (blogs, guesbooks, etc) because I think that's reserved for the lowest of the low. I know I HATE when people try to spam mine.
Lets see what happens, maybe Google will even get a little more info about the character of the spammy sites to work into their next algo and give us a chance to beat the spam in the real SERPs.

That's how I got here, along with a few others!
Though I've never really tried to get to the top in Google or done a lot of SEO stuff, with out even trying I'm #6 out of 26,400,000 for 'nintendo'.

I'm In,...
Quick into of me to the group,... like to drink beers and do kareoke a few nights a week and naturally create web apps, sites, etc by day... (gotta pay bills).
Looking forward to the contest.
Quick question,... how many folks out there have the #1 spot on Google and for how many keywords?

That's a good question, and I think there's a thread needing revival:

I think one of the sites I manage has a decent ranking on G.Y.M for "freelance + ratings". Ofcourse the site is not active and took a backburner.
BTW welcome to v7n. I'm quite a n00b myself over here but this network looks promising.

A question about the target keywords, will they be keywords that currently have Google results, or start out fresh with no results?!

Welcome CorTez.
I do, for about 2828 different keywords.
..but don't worry, I'm not competing.
