You're kidding right?
By the way, the the contest prizes just got doubled by one of Greg's friends. Looks like we will most likely host the contest w/o having to pay out a red cent. (I can't see the contestants choosing $1,000 grand prize when they could choose a $2,000 grand prize.)

Yes, of course I'm kidding.
... and don't be so sure about that second comment. Anyone who want's to participate has to consider the following: You are the original contest starter and therefore have EVERY intention of paying out the prize amounts... these other guys are trying to stir up **** and you really have to wonder whether or not they're going to put their money where their mouth is.
Besides, it's not about the money. These things are all about having fun and BRAGGING RIGHTS!
I mean seriously, that much effort and time into a real ecommerce site will yield more than a grand.

Let's not overlook the fact that Greg is using this to get attention by grandstanding.

Well, it's an amising little tempest in a teapot, that's for sure!
And, John, any publicity is good publicity, especially when it's free.

This contest already served one of its main goals. It's highly entertaining.

True, Ferre. V7n Reality TV.
And I loved this:

I myself have decided to stick with the original rather than support a copier who wants people to link to Matt Cutts’ blog as a requirement to enter the competition (suck up).
|
Loved that "suck up" part, because it's so true.

Hey John,
I really enjoy the way you run your forum. Everyone here has always been very respectful and helpful. I wish you a lot of luck with your contest and if nothing else, all the noise on other sites has definitely created a lot of link bait for your forum. In the end, I do believe that many curious lurkers will find your forum as helpful as I have and will stick around. I haven't posted much since joining - crazy workload, but I do stop in and I plan on posting a lot more often starting in January.
Good luck again and have a Happy New Year!!

About the link to Matt, it's fun but what is more weird is that it is for the non-www version. Is that a joke they play on Matt? I mean those links are useless, the www version that has PR 7 will always rank higher anyway, it must be some joke, bet or something of the kind. Anybody who knows? I have seen they have done that earlier (Greg and oilman).

Where did they do it to earlier?

Huh. I only do that to my enemies. I wonder why they would do that to Matt.

Just noticed that Loren Baker (SEJ) has edited her piece.
He added:
Quote:
|
John at v7n has added that “the link can be JavaScript. Or it can have a nofollow attribute. It just has to be human-clickable."
|
Somewhat misleading. It seems that she would imply that I added that requirement after the fact, probably wanting people to believe that I did so because of her.
The fact that he refuses to state is that there has never been the requirement of a static link, and from the beginning I posted (in the original announcement) that:
Quote:
|
We are not specifying the type of link - that's entirely at your discretion.
|
http://www.v7n.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22836
See it there in the very first post? Yeah, and it's been there from the beginning.

It's funny reading through Greg's blog comments, he's got a few real morons posting on there. And they reference the "v7n linking requirement" to help Matt Cutts PageRank. Hmm. So we never did require search engine indexable links, and that schmuck is requiring them. Himself doing what he falsely accused me of doing.
What a hypocrite.
(I know, I know, I should PayPal the guy some cash to say thanks for all the publicity he got us - but instead I'll just let him double our grand prize. )

Yeah, I was amused to see that I didn't "get the joke"...
I still don't, ok?

Michael - Let me slow down a bit for you. The link to Matt is a joke, he is a google engineer, the gate keeper against paid for manipulated links. Greg asked all of the participants in his contest to give Matt a bunch of paid for manipulated links. It is a joke, a bit of SEO irony. Cmon man, you have to see that don't you?
John - "Huh. I only do that to my enemies. I wonder why they would do that to Matt?" - You can't be serious. Again, this is a joke poking fun at the way Google handles the www an non-www versions of a site. You run a SEO message board and you don't see the irony here?

Yeah, I see the joke and it's funny.
But a link from hundreds of contest pages, all with PR is still something, maybe a bit more than what is needed for this simple joke
