Lightbulb All my eggs in the natural seo basket...

Been eating, sleeping and breathing natural seo for what seems like forever but really just 12-15 hr.s per day, nearly everyday, for nearly 5 years.

I can pretty much accomplish anything I want for my small to mid size customers on the major engines for two or more word terms but always vastly improve their business, (by the grace of God.)

While many fight over content is king verses standard seo, I have actually gotten pretty good at combining both.
I study and use all the most solid long term seo practices, blend them with great content and do my best to offer the best to both worlds.

Anyway, I am getting a bit concerned that I have all my eggs in one basket, that basket being natural serps.

I did a bit of Overture ppc a very long time ago, must be at least 3-4 years, feels like long, while I was learning natural, anyway, I have focused totally on natural serps for years and always delivered for all of my clients plenty of great natural serps.

BUT, if I had to run and depend on say an AdWords campaign, I would probably starve, I have had no time to keep up with evolving ppc programs, methods, etc.
I never had to, but I am wondering,,,,

Should I take time out to learn ppc programs and methods, JUST in case some day I wake up and all my natural serp delivering skills are no longer working?????

I feel engines will always have natural serps and as long as I am doing what is wanted by people and the engines I will do alright, but,,,

I wonder at times if I may be setting myself up to crash and burn someday if I dont know much about PPC and related paid advertising.

The thoughts of others might be,,???

Thanks
Frank

I think you know the answer yourself but really don’t want to spend your time doing boring PPC. For shopping site natural SEO may not be the way of the future as SE will provide more of an alterative mechanism (eg Froogle) for these services. So if you are selling you must embrace everything within your budget including PPC.

I would do the PPC thing as well. If you aren't willing to do it, find someone who can run it all for you. You may also want to look at doing a feed for the shopping search engines.

Stick to what you know & do best.

I just finished writing a huge post and decided to delete it all in favour of the line posted above.

If you find the spare time needed to ease into PPC and paid marketing then go for it, slowly. It is a great way to lose LOTS of money if you don't know the little tricks and ad writing techniques.

Organic SEO is a source of huge/free traffic if you do it right, it seems like you are doing it right... stick to what you know.

I'd have a dabble in it mate, it's not too difficult if you're A1 with natural, they're not so different in a few ways.

Perhaps with your next client stick in your proposal a few weeks/months worth of PPC for the start of the site while your naturals climb and then sit and think if it was worth it. At least you're not committed long-term to supplying ppc services to that client doing it this way.

Perhaps just run a test site for a few months to see if you like it first?

I personally like doing one thing and do it right, and then possibly partner up with experts in other fields. It won't hurt to expand a little bit into other arenas, but I always suggest to do it thru those with some experience and then help them out with what you do best in return
