Alexa question (I think they are doing something wrong)
Hi i have noticed my website in Alexa is going abit high very quick
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?u...pitstop.co.uk/
can this be right , the website is only 2 months old. ok it is ranking high in some SE's but not all and gets about 400-500 hits a day that has been going up and doing well but to get a ranking that high in Alexa and by the looks of it, it is going to be alot higher very soon and i really dont think it should be
Has any one got any thoughts on this

I you have the Alexa Toolbar installed, and you visit your site frequently, your Alexa Rating will skyrocket.
184,000 is prettty easy to ge with just one serious webmaster.

By chance do you have this site set as your home page on your browser? If so, everytime you launch an instance of your browser, you're getting a "hit" for Alexa.
Either way, don't get too concerned or too excited.
Alexa stats, by their own admission, are only based on hits from those who have downloaded their toolbar.
Further, many regard their toolbar as spam as it's merely a data mining and collection tool for Amazon.
Alexa stats are about as important and reliable as _____ (insert analogy)

Alexa can only measure the traffic to browsers, or users, who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Therefore the results reflect the browsing habits, or activities, of those people. Alexa rankings are very easy to improve, just install the toolbar and visit the site daily. Rankings will improve on how many times you do this.

It is true that Alexa traffic measuring tool is extremely unreliable since only a small percentage of people have the toolbar installed and that percentage is usually quite biased toward specific services.
However, I thought that one couldn't simply press F5 using browser with Alexa to get a high ranking. Pretty sure they count one IP as one hit, or I could be wrong.
You'd have to go out of your way to use a proxy or something similar to pump up your own score.

My alexa rating is 77,577 and I do not have the toolbar. Is that a good rating or not?

Does putting on your site a Traffic Rank Button, or a Site Stats Button, or aTraffic History Graph help your ranking in alexa?

I don't think so. Think you have to have the Alexa toolbar installed.

One thing I gotta say is, I do get calls from advertisers who start out the call with "Hi I saw you have a good Alexa ranking and..."
Some morons really, actually go by Alexa.

Lol I know, I once knew a guy who bought links from sites that had at least x alexa rank, which was very easy to get, so I just got 10 domains, visited them frequently and put them on the start page on my school and was over it easily withing a few days. then sold for a total of $160 of links lol!
He was asking for it!
