SEO, languaged based?
Hey All,
I have mostly had just English sites, but i'm working on a HUGE TO BE project, which is in Dutch.
Now my question is, if you would seo a dutch site, would you use english keywords aswell? and how about words like fun ( which is in english and dutch thesame )
Site is about teens, fun, forums etc lol
How to seo such a site?

Ah ... being a perv with a long leg fetish, I love the Dutch. Somehow the small country of Nederlands (the Netherlands) grows 'em tall
If there is going to be Dutch language on the site, one option may be to offer the pages in another language - English.
NeO has been experimenting with this very thing so he would likely be able to give some good resources and better input.
As the Dutch language and population (especially on the Internet) is not very large, I would have to guess that English would be the way to go as far as SEO.
One possible way to "compliment" any Dutch-language pages, might be to give the file structure, images, alt-texts, etc. English words even if the primary language of the page is Dutch.
Hope you get some more feedback and ideas; good luck.

Thanks for replying, great to see someone interested in The Netherlands ( Nederland )
I'd be happy to make the site in English as well, but there is a problem. The content is meant for Dutch people only. ( it's some sort of dutch community )
Or should I make an english version of that aswell ( there are many already out there )

You could make the site primarily in Dutch as it is geared to them - doing otherwise may put them off. You could then offer an English version. As they are many cognates of the languages exist, you're already a leg-up in some ways.

ah I see, but how do I seo the dutch pages then? I mean I am working on some contracts with the bigger dutch teen related websites, would this be a good step in the right direction? Or is there any tip/hint or even trick you know that could make me score high in the se's?

Forget any English version for a Dutch community, focus on the keywords that are important for this Dutch niche, if it's teenagers, do some research on what DUTCH teenagers are looking for on the net, and go from there.
The site does have a THEME right? Go for the keywords that are important for the theme of the site first.

Well, you are Dutch are you?
What do Dutch teens look for on the net?
music - games - sex - dating - etc.. they are young people exploring the world.
First you have to ask yourself: What is the theme?
Is there any content yet? What's the content?, what do those teens talk about on that site?, etc...
You could also give that company my name, when I'm doing the thinking anyway.

Since you target a Dutch audience, you have to rank high in the Dutch version of the search engines (google.nl, msn.nl, not sure there is a yahoo Netherlands). These local versions of the SEs are probably the ones that most of your potential audience is using.
To achieve good ranking in these local SEs, your site should be hosted in the Netherlands, and get backlinks from Dutch websites.

I'm working on getting hosting from somewhere around Schiphol ( airport in the netherlands )
So dutch host is arranged, almost.
Backlinks from dutch sites hea... hmm! this will probably be the hardest part! as there are a lot of english sites, but not many dutch sites!

Jan is right, you need backlinks from Dutch sites, start with registering on Dutch (related) forums and put the site, with any desired keywords as anchor text, in your signature.
Do a few searches on google.nl for the keywords and see if you can get links from the sites on the first pages.
Start here:
