I am really sorry if that is considered spam - I honestly didn't anticipate that it would be.
Anyway thanks for the feedback and I will not post things like this in the future.

Man this thread has over 25,000 Views. I guess that should be expected with the amount of interest this comp has generated. Anyway I thought I'd drop in on the home of V7ndotcom elursrebmem. Well Mr Scott what have you unleashed on the World?

Gotta give some credit to "the detractors", as the WSJ put it, they helped publicize it with their whining

Every SEO contest have detractors. Most of them are stupid and violent.
As we're used to say in France :
"The dogs bark, but the caravan goes by..."

Allright guys ... so my 3/15 update says the attached. Any of the experts out there want to chime in with their theories here - s*it happens, and I'm NOT here to whine about it - just trying to figure it out.
2006/03/15: Still puzzled by the abrupt drop in Google as it has slid to #12 despite having a PageRank of 7 (although PR is over-rated) and ridiculous number of backlinks from supporters - most of which are anchor-text'ed for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem. Per the ongoing stats table, this page continues to rank in the top-3 for MSN and Yahoo, but has dropped to the second page of results in Google. My only guess is the so-called "Google Bowling" phenomena may actually exist. I.e. it may be possible to knock a page down in the rankings using external factors as Google may penalize the target page due to what it considers unnatural linking. Normally a technique used by black-hats ... but in my case, it could be the natural exuberance of my (great) supporters - both may apply here (?) My hope is that Google will eventually sort this out in the next two months before the end of the contest on May 15th.

The drop may not be due to your doing badly; it could just be due to others doing better.

Hi Alek,
Happy you don't think that's Taggle Team bad neighborhood
I would look for what is specific to your site to explain the drop. And IMO, what's specific is its PR7. Not that PR really matters but at least this PR7 means you got a lot of links.
Could it be that your site is under an Over Optimization Penalty due to a too quick links growth? I don't know how old your site is, but it might be suffering a kind of sandbox effect.
Another reason could be the one you mention: unnatural links. But as far as I can judge I don't see a lot of natural linking in this contest (except maybe the links to John's forum). My links are 95% unnatural, coming from non-related pages, and a good part of them are "links for googlebot" (located in footers).
Just my 2 cents. Anyway I think we have to wait until Big Daddy stabilizes before we can draw conclusions. And I suspect we will still see a lot of moves in Google in the coming days. Hopefuly your site will come back in position 2 (position 1 will be mine )

"too quick links growth" is certainly a decent theory (especially given the 30-40,000 links as reported by MSN and Yahoo) ... and would support the contention that you can GoogleBowl a site down in the SERP's. As noted, I find it interesting that I'm still top-3 in MSN and Yahoo, so while different algorithms, one would think there would be a drop there also if I was slacking and/or getting passed by others.
P.S. I actually like you Taggle Team guys - some great creativity, especially with the graphics - and I've had some fun "messing" with 'ya on my Black Hat page ... ;-)

This indeed could be a factor.....
you also have a hell of a lot more text than i've seen elsewhere and its possible that its diluted your v7ndotcom elursrebmem.

I'm new to all this, but is there maybe a chance that google would rate links to pages from indexes only listing sites for v7n....e...? i mean if i was designing a search engine i certainly wouldnt want to give any kind of preference to a site which is linked to by a site which tends to link to exactly the same thing..
Personally i think this will be an interesting competition to follow.. who knows, i might try my luck later in the competition myself.. from what i've seen new content on older domains tend to creep up the rankings quite fast if you get some decent links into the page... but who knows, i might be completely wrong there!
Just thinking out loud, maybe i should keep those ideas to myself, but seriously,
Good Luck to all contestants, i might just watch from the side-line, i may watch from a compeditors view too.
"Results 1 - 10 of about 5,710,000 for v7ndotcom elursrebmem. (0.10 seconds) " (Australia)

Too fast linking definitely is a no-no in the current "round" of washing of the results. I saw one of our entries get knocked out of the top 20 a week ago, and that must have been due to agressive linking. I believe slow linking is a key to keep climbing when the key-phrase is popular.

Here's a folloowup on the post above and my two cents analysis of Google Bowling - while I had read about this and wondered if it is real, I now believe it is. I also suggest/conclude in my writeup that this is a "good" thing to increase overall relevance of search results ... but (like everything) has unintented consequences and can be used as a weapon by nefarious SEO's to clobber a competitor.
