Just to follow up to my own post
A Godaddy rep suggested and registered another domain for me. I paid over the phone and after I hung up I received another one of those "If the domain registration is successful" emails. However this time, the domain appeared in my account and I was able to change the nameservers. Can you believe that the domain STILL has not propagated? In the meantime, A domain that I registered through my WildWestDomains reseller account is already live .

http://www.ukreg.com were good for me and very fast and registered a few domain names for me for the contest that came through quick enough to give me time to rush off over to blogger.com and rob the most wanted domain there too

Highly recommend them for FAST domain registrations, although cheaper can be found elsewhere.
