Contest Keywords Announcement

The creation of the contest keywords is a task I approached with more than a little diligence. The contest has grown bigger than I had ever imagined, and adding two words to the vocabulary of the Internet provides us with an opportunity to make a statement.

Some folks suggested a humanitarian statement. "World Peace" written backwards, or something indicating the importance of curing AIDS. These are all lofty suggestions, but I could not help but think that such a statement would be seen as mere lip service. Which indeed it would be.

So I decided to choose keywords which have a more personal meaning. The keywords I chose indicate the value this community places upon community. The v7n community has always been, in my opinion, a couple notches above other forums where community is involved. Several of the members here have been steadfast friends, with whom I discuss personal issues that I'd never discuss with people who I didn't consider to be true friends. I believe this community has created several such friendships, and in that respect v7n is unique among webmaster forums.

To quote a PM I recently received:

When this competition first took off, it just seemed like another competition but this has achieved so much more.

People have jumped on the bandwagon and tried to steal v7n's thunder but you have handled it very well and have come across straight to the point and professional with your replies.

The competition is getting bigger all the time which is good to see.

Also, the extra sponsors jumping in to support v7n and the way the guys here have rallied together (in a professional manner) to support this and defended it is amazing.

I have not known a forum with such team spirit and camaraderie and I can definitely say that when our backs are against the wall, the guys here show their true colors.

Sometimes it takes an unwarranted attack to bring out the community spirit, and with that in mind I offer thanks to Greg Boser.

The rules for the competition are as follows:

1. In order to win the first prize, you must place first in Google (organic rankings) for the search term on May 15, 2006, noon, Pacific standard time.

2. Prizes for 2nd place through 5th place will be awarded based on web page placing in the corresponding positions in Google on May 15, 2006, noon, Pacific standard time.

3. For the purpose of this competition, indented listings in the SERPs will not be counted.

4. In order to qualify for the prize, a web page must include one of the following:

a. A link back to the V7N home page.

The link can be in any manner you wish, any anchor text you wish, with nofollow, without nofollow, JavaScript, cloaked or fried up and served with potatoes.

b. One of these Official V7n SEO Contest banners:










The banners may link to V7N, or not link to V7N. Linking the banner to any domain other than v7n will disqualify the contestant.

Just to make this very clear, the banner may be unlinked. You do not need to link the banner graphic to v7n. For those who do not speak English: you do not need to link el-banner-o to v7n-o.

c. The following text:

Please remember, in order for the web page to be compliant, it must contain at least one of the elements listed above.

If datacenters show different results on the 15 of May, the winner will be declared solely at the discretion of V7N. If there are any disputes as to the validity of the winner declaration, V7N will be the sole arbiter.

I never read anyplace you had to use a unique domain for the ranking... why are you guys starting from scratch with a new domain?
Weight of keywords in domains for google is nothing compared to msn.

I got V7NDOTCOM-ELURSREBMEM-CONTEST .COM but it won't be up for a bit.

I tried for the v7ndotcom-elursrebmem.com and my wife was going for the .net

We both were too slow so I ended up with

v7ndotcom-elursrebmem-1.com

sucky but, domain name doesnt mean everything
