Concerning the fact the competitor's site is well placed, I have seen the same on all contests I have been in. Many sites seems to have a link and not only the logo (my case). It's cool for V7n

I agree with Eclipsis that you get strong backlinks that make v7n.com rank:
- the contestants pages that link to v7n.com are all about the keyword
- these links are not reciprocal links

If anything it proves that Google has some strong semantic tools in place.

Suddenly there's a whole lot of pages around covering this brand new area, and a vast majority of them either link to, or mention v7n.com. In a semantic world, of course that means that V7n.com must be the main, authority on the subject.
