hmm, I do remember that when I checked out the domain, it said 1 year for free. Had I chosen 2 years, it would have charged me.

It's good marketing technique, they lure thousands of people into .be domains who otherwise never would have bothered with buying a .be domain and not many people will give it up after a year when there's traffic build up to the domain.

Makes perfect sense to me now. Some countries won't allow you to register their extensions unless you're a resident there (which makes little sense to me). Good to see that .be is more open minded than that.
