v7n.com in contest

I just discovered the v7n home page in #29 for the contest keywords. When I checked the cache:

By the way, I'll make sure v7n isn't in the top for the keywords, so please don't accuse me of trying to hijack the contest so I can keep the money.

And, yes, I did a tiny, tiny, bit of linking to v7n with the keywords in the anchor text, and the home page of v7n has "v7ndotcom elursrebmem" on it now, in the form of a link to a non-competing page.

The linking I did to v7n is just a test. I'll talk more about it later.

I just added a few links, not any high PageRank stuff, and the links were ALT text of an image linked to v7n. Just curious how much it will affect the ranking.

It's from most of the webmasters in the contest linking back to v7n that got it that close, and it'll probably keep climbing as Google finds more back-links!!

Could happen, but I'm guessing that as the contest goes on, more people will climb above v7n, pushing it down.

Interesting find you have there, John. I saw something similar and wrote about it in a blog post here

The key phrase was mentioned once on the page, and it got on 230'ish place in the serps.

I wouldn't be surprized if all the forum spamming with sig links and links in posts and the fact that loads of related news articles have links to v7n will push this site up to become competitive for the folks who have their contest page anchored in their sig. I was thinking of that the past few days, those dudes are creating their own competition here.

John can i just say i think if your website gets number one then thats it dosnt really matter cos if no one can beat your site from being number one then the SEO of other sites musnt be any good as thats the aim of the game

see what number one is doing and do one better

I haven't checked the way the contest pages displaying the contest banners do it. But if some just display the banners by calling their url at v7n as a src of the img tag (as not as a local copy, I hope I'm clear) this would be considered as a kind of link to v7n by Google.
Maybe a part of the expanation (the other part being that competitors are real bad at SEO since they can't do better than a non SEOed page

)

I just saw it in the cache of a page that only had the links withing <noframe> tags.

I checked it out and found a page linking the anchor phrase to one of the Taggle team pages and also had a link to V7n using the ancored words Eluresrebmem we support v7n.com

If enough people do that, you pretty much get the Google bomb effect I think.

By chance, the Swedish SEO company hired by that particular site, also has a French branch. And yes, they are notorious in using noframes code.

If v7n is #1 does the first prize goto #2?

in my eyes it would be daft if it did as the aim is to rank #1 and if no one can beat the v7n website if that gets to #1 then there is no good SEO's out there
