Google has sophisticated algorithms that determine how much to crawl each site. Our goal is to crawl as many pages from your site as we can on each visit without overwhelming your server's bandwidth. You can change the crawl rate (the time used by Googlebot to crawl the site) for sites that are at the root level - for example, www.example.com and http://subdomain.example.com. You can't change the crawl rate for sites that are not at the root level&mdas;for example, www.example.com/folder.

Changing Google's crawl rate It also says under the instructions on that page:

The new crawl rate will be valid for 90 days.

Part 1 of your reply has been addressed above. The second part will help.
Also, the following will help:
- A traditional site map. One that is built for people will service your visitors and the search bots that do not support the Sitemaps protocol.
- Linking to other pages from within your own content. The articles/posts, not just the navigation.
- Related posts/articles.
- RSS feed. (You can have a RSS feed even if your site is not run by a content management system.) Ping the feed to the appropriate search engines/directories. e.g. You might use Ping-o-matic (which is installed by default in Wordpress)

Internal link building is one of the easiest ways to create incoming links to the pages of your website or blog. You have total control, unlike when someone links to a page on their own. Combine great content, internal linking and that will eventually lead to natural incoming links. There are 2 main sections of work your internal link building strategy can be broken down into:
•Website Construction
•Within Your Content

It is also the easiest way to get pages indexed in the search engines.
