Link Baiting

Well January has been officially become Link Baiting. Every SEO blog has blogged about it, and every SEO has formed an opinion on it, and I'm officially tired of it.

Link baiting, like everything else, should be done in moderation. And expressing a stupid opinion, then excusing it with "I was just link baiting", doesn't fly.

Is link baiting when you make a program or page just to get back-links?

i dont think so

if im wrong John please say

link baiting is like this SEO contest John has made something that is big from his website just about a contest now all or mostly every webmaster forum SEO site will say something like

"Hay have you seen what these are doing on this website <<link>>"

some will place keywords in like "SEO Contest" ore "webmaster forum"

that is what i have allways thought link baiting is look at it like this also

John makes contest = (bait)

others link to the bait = (link)

John sits back and goes huck line and sink

My understanding is that link baiting is doing or saying something controversial in hopes that others will link to you.

The comment above, posted by you was a classic and says it all.

Just my 2 cents!

john's contest is not link bait imho, he has left it as an option to put the link with a nofollow, or to not put the link at all and replace it with "we support v7n" text or a v7n banner, I fail to see the problem??

John's contest and the hype he worked up around controvercy surrounding it were linkbait attempts...although the term linkbaiting has become annoying recently because it is the SEO's version of a web 2.0 words.

jinae is web crapjinae is web crap
link baiting seems to be a normal and standard marketing method that has existed for a long time in any industry. It seems like the method is being re-labeled as link baiting.

Any legal and moral original idea worthy of attention and interest deserves the backlinks. After all, if there is no interest, then backlinks would not be there...

How do you already have negative rep after only 5 posts?

anyways, a friend of mine posted about link baiting in his blog. I liked his article and thought it was very informative.

Seems to me that like almost every form of online marketing, there is the 'get rich quick' scammers/spammers who will do anything for a uv or back link.

no follow is a new tag that Google started pushing and other SE's picked up. basically it tells them that the link being posted is not to be used for backlink data. Forums, blogs, etc. are asked to use the no-follow tag in areas like sigs and whatnot to help cut down spammers.

as I understand it.

backlink... the links in my sig are backlinks.
edit: to be more specific, the links in my sig are "anchor text backlinks" featuring keywords important to those sites. Although being in a sig they don't carry the same value as they would elsewhere... again, as I understand it.
