Same Keyword, Multiple pages, One Domain.

Does optimizing content for the same keyword on a few different pages in my site have any effect on the domains overall value in SE's?

I have one keyword that I'm working on with anchor text links and I'm making progress, but different pages come up at different times on the same search engines for the same keyword. I'm wondering if I should just stick to optimizing my homepage and building anchor text links to it, or try to use the same keyword links to a bunch of different pages.

I guess here is a summary of my Q. Say I have 100 total backlinks.
Option A.

100 backlinks to www.tca-inc.net

Option B

20 links to www.tca-inc.net

40 links to store.tca-inc.net

40 links to www.tca-inc.net/dviinfo.thml

etc. .... know what I mean? What would be more benificial? building my backlinks to just one page, or a number of them, or is there no difference?

Dustin

Difficult to say what the exact ratio should be, but I would try to have some of the links (say 30 to 40%) pointing to the internal pages, and the rest (60 to 70%) pointing to the main page you want to rank.

This will result in having 3 "strong" pages for the keyword (because all 3 have external backlinks), and, if the 2 secondary pages link to the main one in a smart way, then the main one will be "super strong".

Having 3 relevant pages for the keyword will make your site overall more relevant for that keyword than if you have only one page super-optimized for the keyword.

Thanks Jan Thats basically what I'm doing now, I'd say 60-70% of my articles and whatnot go back to the main page.

I gotta tell you, the more I try to make heads or tails of this SEO thing the more confused I get. I should have stopped researching a month ago when I learned the significance of anchor text links.

I'm starting to think OUTGOING anchor text links are almost as valuable in inbound.

I am also sure that they can help a lot. Good inbound + quality outbound will make your page a Hub (Hilltop meaning). All 3 major SEs love hubs.

They seem to. I'm sure there other factors as well... I think the carcasher contest is proving that Content is still very valuable, although the "miserable failure" proves anchor links are still as well. hmmm....

I moved up to #2 for yahoo on the contest, the number one site has more inbound and more outbound but less content (IMO) the sites following me have more inbound links, less content. hmmm... much to learn.
