SB can be better than directory submissions, I think mainly because directory submission is a one time thing, and most of the time needs to be done manually. Where with social bookmarking you have tools to help you, and from what I have read, it helps you bookmark a site to thousands of social sites?

Correct me if I am wrong though. I have not worked on the social networking and bookmarking areas much because of time constraints.

I do not do free directory submissions anymore. I do not think they have much effect. If these directories have real value and nice PR and not spammed I might think of it.
Social bookmarking may be of real use. All depends on what your site is about.
I would suggest making a list of the top 20 SB sites. And getting your blog/site bookmarked here. Not once or twice. More than 50 times. Just make sure you do not get banned for this. Use different accounts. Make sure you add proper tags n stuff. These link may/may not flow page rank but in the end of the day you will get much more traffic than what you would get from doing 500 free directory submissions.

Yes, Social Bookmarking is much better than Directory Submission because it index fast your content, boost the rankings of your targeting keyword in Search Engine and last is it generates more traffic than Directory Submission Site.

I think both are worth it. Directories from an SEO stand point and Social Bookmarking from a traffic standpoint. I would prefer doing a little bit of both.

Find dofollow social bookmarking websites with High PR for submission, then only you submission will be cached by google and you will get a backlink from those sites.

Social Bookmarking is good because you get more links from there and traffic as well.But i always recommend not to do only social bookmarking for your social media sites.Build a network over there and then you will get more traffic there.

yes you are right I have tried it one of my site I did 50 social bookmarking and 50 free directory submission, and I have checked out the backlinks of that site it was amazing the backlinks which I got more from is social bookmarking and for directory submission I got only three or four backlinks...
