Anchor Text

Can someone recommend a good tool to me where I can better decide what anchor text to use for linkbacks? I'm not talking about keyword tools either. I want something to help me better decide if it's even worth targeting a particular keyword phrase that I would choose. Is there any way to predict? Like maybe something based on your site's PR? Because I am having trouble ranking with Google on anything. MSN I did quite well. But the MSN traffic hasn't converted into any sales yet. 0 for nearly 900 keyword searches this month. I'd appreciate if anyone could help.

Your anchor txt should really be some keywords or phrases that you use on the page you’re setting the link up for. You do need to be careful you don’t stuff keywords into the anchor text, your better to use more natural statements.

Take this for example: if your site is about Blue Widgets you don’t want anchor text like "blue Widget is a big blue widget for lovers of blue widgets".

With that being said you should really use something like "A great source for blue widgets". Its short, easy to read and contains a key phrase.

For every anchor text you create you its better having a mixture of anchors like "Color Blue information for Widgets", again short easy to ready, contains two of your keywords and is different from the anchor txt before.

There are various keyword finders on the net such as the one I recently discovered myself: http://www.tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/

There is a training video for this tool on http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...95956676&q=seo

Thanks for the tool, BingoBalls! That's a great addition to my SEO Tools folder. Prior to this, I had only used DigitalPoint's keyword tool and before that I used Overture's. One thing about Overture is that they don't show plural, just singular.

I will definitely have to take a look at that video link you provided. Because I'm looking at this now not really understanding how it's going to help me know if a keyword will work or not based on my PR.

If you're having trouble with your conversion ratio, maybe you should take a look at what's working for the competition. Words that we geeks think people would search on aren't necessarily hot for people who are looking to buy the widget, if you see what I'm saying.

hey TK, don't know if it helps or not, but I like to focus on ONE keyword at a time. Get some good articles up and out, a lot of good backlinks, before moving on to the next keyword to optimize for.

the keyword I chose to work on most recently I picked because it's only moderatly competitive (and only moderately searched, around 2,000times/month) but it's very high profit item for me when it does sell.

Why is called Anchor Text? Anchors in HTML are for labelling Jump Links Text (see Dreamweaver options). A better phrase would be "Link Text".

because in the vast ocean of the internet, it is the anchor that stops the visitor's boat so they can check out that particular piece of scenery?

A nifty keyword tool can be found here

http://www.yooter.com/keyword/

you can choose country & download/export results in different formats for leisurely perusal

(.....just hope my fishy, nuke overtaking, friend doesn't mind - you know who you are )

your anchor text should contain the keywords/phrases that you are aiming for and these indeed should feature within your page text also. Best advice as above go for one or two per page only.

If you are getting traffic but not converting then it is a great idea to look at what your competition is doing - what have they got you havn't? Is your site as pleasant to visit as theirs?
...it is unfortunately the case that once a site manages to get traffic if can fail on actually closing a 'sale' for a variety of reasons...but if you can attune your site to provide a similar look/feel & general offerings to that of your competitors it may be that you see improvements in conversion.
