Changing Server creates any problem?

Hi Friends

I'm working for a site which has 1,027 back links and a PR of 5, and the site is ranked for most of the keywords. Now my client planned to shift the domain to another server i.e totally different IP location.

My question is, if we change the server it affect the current SEO ranking and loss of back links and the PR ?

Should i take any precautionary steps to save the PR and Back links?

It may affect your rankings, because server location impact your ranking.
If, at present, your server is located in target country then you should not change your server.

Otherwise ou can change, but this may affect your rankings a bit, may be after a short preriod rankings will bounce back.

hi goodluckdomain,

i had a friend of mine who did a similar thing that your client wants to do with his website.
but in the process he lost the PR of his website because google takes IP into account also.

it's best advisable that you can suggest your client to shift to a server within the same country as he has decided to do a switch already.

if things can be sorted out the problems in your old server then then keeping the website there.. this will help you to keep your existing PR.

hi goodluckdomain,

if they are shifting to a new server box then ask them to get a class C IP address. this helps a lot.

i think this will not affect the PR.

kindest,
abhishek

When my sites get moved to a new server, a lot of email providers put my site on a ban list because they think the site has a dynamic ip address.

Then I have to spend the next month contacting email providers and ask them to unblock email from my site.

You most certainly will lose SOME of it - but should be able to get back up quickly.

Just make sure the entire transfer is seamless, don't let your website stay down for too long.

unless or until you have the control with the site downtime down migration
if the hosting server located in different counties you may expect small fluctuations with targeting content on the country which the site once located
