I think I read somewhere that something along the lines of:

"houston criminal attorneys"

was a VERY high one.

I saw a 1.52 click on my SEO blog. It was either SEO or WiFi / wireless security related. I understand that insurance (health, auto, etc) is a big one.

Nick do you know about the Overture Bid tool or do you have an adwords account ? Both are ways for checking out how in demand keywords are.

I have a tool that lets you check up to 15 keyword phrases against the Overture Bid tool here.

What I would love to see is what the highest paying keywords actually pay out in Adsense/YPN. The problem is, that regardless of what the top bids are, you're only going to earn a portion of whatever the top bidder of those who opt in for their ads to be displayed in content. So if the top bidder is paying $34/click, but the top bidder who shows ad in content only pays $1.80/click, you're going to get a portion of that.

Any suggestions on how to find this?

Testing is about all you can do. Since gathering keyword data in this context is a planning activity prior to deploying content it shouldn't make much of a difference as long as you publish sets of content.

If you looking to cherry pick only one or two terms and not test anything on your own sites then I think you have unreasonable expectations.

Oh, I definitely agree with you about testing. I've found a few really great paying words through extensive testing and have been able to capitalize using such methods, however I'm always looking for ways where I don't need to so-called "reinvent the wheel".
