Several online tools are available to check broken links for your site. The one I use is brokenlinkcheck.com. It will check and report if there is any broken link in your website.

I usually use Google Webmaster Tools: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

If you're using wordpress, here's a plug-in that might help you: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...-link-checker/

Xenu is fast, multi-threaded, can be configured to ignore certain types of links, works well in a large site with a large number of outgoing links and / or internal links, as you choose. A report is generated as an HTML page that makes it useful for editing / repairing your site once they locate the broken links.

In webmaster tools, click on the "Diagnostics" tab and then click on "Crawl Errors"

See what's in there.

Doesn't w3c's link checker work? It does give odd errors sometimes but otherwise it's pretty thorough.

Simply checking your google tools: http://www.google.com/webmasters

Tends to help quite a bit with finding issues, broken links and provides some HTML suggestions. They however can take some time to show up and then disappear after being fixed as the crawlers check through your pages depending on site size, etc.

Broken links are links that lead to pages that do not exist. When you click on a broken link then you find that the page you land on is called a 404 error page and a standard HTTP response that indicates that the requested URL doesn’t exist.According to me Google WebMaster tool is best to check broken links.
