It is effective every time but you should also try to use some other forums. Just make sure that mostly forums are relevant.

Before coming here, I was wondering in making back links for my site, I was commenting on blogs, trying to use the auto directory submitting tools.
But some one suggest me that If u want real google back links, which is count by the google, you must go the forum, and finally I came here.
Really the forum signature is the most powerful back links for a website.

If you analyse a lot of forums with a toolbar like Seoquake, you find that the profile page contains the dofollow link, whilst the posts are nofollow. Therefore the account is providing the link, not the posts. Maybe if more people knew that we would not get so much spam.

The question is specifically whether each signature on each posting within a thread on the same forum counts as an individual link.
No it doesn't, because each thread is a page and SE's will only count the first one on a page. So if you post 5 replies to the same thread, it only counts as one link.
As to whether they count as quality links from high PR website, that obviously depends on the forum you are using.

Forum signature links are only helpful when you post threads in relevant category of your website. It increases traffic and back links of your website.

Don't chase links. Try to offer useful input and ideas. It's not only about building some back links, it's about proving you deserve some attention. A good post will get you VISITS and increase traffic. Write useless junk and you'll get banned from everywhere. I for instance ban anyone who's not contributing. And DELETE all their posts, so goodbye backlinks

Sorry but I don't agree. I post on forums that are related to my niche but I also post on SEO forums just because I am interested in it. By doing so I sometimes get a link from my signature with relevant anchor text and it is still a helpful backlink.

I agree with you. On page 1 of this thread there are a few banned members but won't mention the reason for banning.
I joined V7N to help find answers to a few questions and ended up never leaving here along with becoming a moderator. I post on forums because i like helping people out and also i like to voice my opinion even if people disagree with me. If my signature get's a click then that's cool but i don't join forums to get "targeted backlinks".
Heck, we get people who create fake signatures not knowing that we have a signature rule in place here. Those folks don't last very long because they join a forum without never reading the rules.

As I've observed, it is helpful too to post on same forums but it is much more than beneficial to post on different forums, because there are a much bigger possibility that people will see your link.

Forum signatures are not only intended for backlinks. It is also a great way to showcase your brand or website to a lot of people around your niche.

It's a link, and as we all know in SEO, "a link is a link."
Follow or nofollow, they can help with the traffic. What you should care about is the quality of the replies that you post on the forums that go with your signature. If your link is associated with bogus replies and contents, you'll have a chance of being banned in the forums.

Well, it looks as though no one can really answer your question. I think the general consensus is that forum profile links are a good source of backlinks, however how effective multiple links on the same forum are, is uncertain. To be honest, the only ones who truly know the answer are the google engineers. And they are not going to tell us anytime soon.

I think it all depends on the forum and who is writing on it.. if someone in a thread is answering everyones questions properly they are more likely to have their signature clicked on. However if you are on these form reading what the last guy wrote and rewriting it you are probably not gonna benefit. Again content is key, this is all google stresses...

A link is a link and the more the better BUT google knows that forums are a place for building multiple links and therefore often the links aren't as weighted however, they are still links. It is important that you have several forums rather than using just one. What happens if they shut down the forum you are using? Basically spread the links and you'll be contributing to lots of different things across several forums.
