The is off-page and on-page seo. So you have to know the difference and how the work together to rank your site on search engines.

I bought and ebook before that told me everything about seo, I can't remember the name but you can do some Google search and come up with some valuable information about this topic.

Good Luck!

IM, as any other endeavor, requires a sound understanding of the basic fundamentals.......

Unfortunately, there are many basics relating to the net...

Keep reading and studying....

The seo tutorial I recommend is http://www.webconfs.com/seo-tutorial/

For your question about how far to go when optimizing never place optimization above visitor satisfaction. Search engine optimization is fine if you can do it while maintaining the viability, usability, and readability of your site. Always create for visitors rather than search engines.

One thing to keep in mind is that off page SEO and backlinking is more important than on page. On page SEO is important and must be done but it's normally not the make or break of your ranking. So, don't overuse your keyword on page, but don't stress out too much. My 2 cents at least

You have to limit the use of your keywords. Because search engine dislikes pages bombarded with keywords. Also, as a visitor or reader I will not want to read the same words or phrases in one page they are reading.

Although you asked a lot of question it's not specific what for. You can use as many keywords as you would like.
The idea is that you have a meaning and help your user ... not "cheat" the search engines.

Panda has changed the game and most may not fully agree but the dust is still settling as to what is now good SEO practice post pander. Two aspects of SEO you need to keep in mind is the on page and off page optimization. For on page optimization include keywords in your Meta tags, titles and h1 .. h6 tags. Also make sure you have your keyword on the first 90 characters and the last few characters of your page. Include at least one link on the page with the keyword you are targeting. All in all your keyword should be between 1 - 2% of overall content. The goal though should not be to write solely for the search engine, keep it natural and put in words that are similar to the keyword you are targeting.

For off page, focus on building high quality backlinks across your webpages. Avoid low quality sites when backlinking, limit link exchanges and build your link gradually.

Welcome to seo...........According to your question keyword density should not be too high and not be too low. It depends on where you are checking your density.
