Well that article depot link is showing up in backlinks again. Still, one backlink isn't very good if the article was submitted to 200+ sites.

For those keeping track I have two backlinks from the article now listed in Yahoo. Still the one from Article Depot and now one from readallthe.info - I'm not sure if the article was submitted there or if they picked it up from one of the article sites. Links from directories sure work faster. My own jtrotta.com, sevenseek, and v7n all show up in backlinks. Still waiting on umdum and a few others.

I just submitted my first article to about 125 directories. I will post any findings I come across here. I submitted the articles myself. Interesting experiement, though.

I am not sure if you were directing that question to me, but here is my list. A lot are PR0, but not all. I acquired this list from someone else so I have not verified the PR. I think they are accurate, though.

Up to 3 links now. It seems that these 250 article submissions did very little, but they did something. Still was it worth the time I spent writing the article and 30.00? I don't think so.

Paid directory listings like my own and Bluefind are much faster and are also showing up in backlinks.

Would the quality and niche of the article matter?

I am not a keen article submitter but do understand than Online Public Relations are a major influence of natural SERPS for large organisations. We really should be looking at “Press Releases” and have something interesting and new to say to the world be it a poll results or business services.

Also found in my own experiments of RSS that submitting to those sites receive very few back links.

Janet are you manually submitting to all of those directories? that must take you hours.

I submitted my first article about a week ago to 125 directories and have 9 backlinks showing in msn so far.

click-partners.com
articleexpress.com
hotlib.com
ideamarketers.com
content-edge.com
articledashboard.com
articles-submit.com
valuablecontent.com
ezinearticles.com

Generally, articles take longer to show up in the serps since a new page will most likely be created for your article and then this page has to be found by the se's which can take awhile. Your link in a directory is on a page that has already been indexed so the results show faster. However, I feel that article submissions are still very worth while as part of your link building campaign and personally feel they hold slightly more weight than directory submissions because they are on a content page with very few links. JMO. It just takes longer to see the results.

I personally do both because I think with a good link building campaign you need to cover all the bases.

Yes, I submitted them manually. I like to do things myself, I am kind of funny that way. I feel that if I have someone else do it, they won't do it right. I know it is a character flaw on my part.

It did take awhile, but it wasn't that bad. I just did some each day when I had the time. When I submit my next article it will be even faster since I am now registered on the sites. So, it is just copy and paste. Overall, I don't think it took me much longer than submitting to directories which I also did myself.

Now that I have 71 backlinks, I think the three article backlinks are useful. I just checked and still have the 3 article links by the way. Paid directories like my own, umdum, bluefind, and sevenseek also contribute nicely to the backlinks. Anyway, for 30 bucks, why not?

so it seems like article backlinks are worthwhile then. especially if you are paying 30 to get listed in a directory. it only cost you 30 to submit to 200 sites. at that rate you basically paying 10 per back link on articles. still cheaper then 30 for a directory.

christian1 is liked by many
I have found that article submission works better for Msn & Yahoo (of course :-))

1. Average results if submitting to just to article directories, even hundreds of them.

2. Better results if submitting to top directories and using a paid submission such as isnare.

3. Good results if build your own list of ezine editors and submit article.

4. Maximum result if combining 2 & 3.

Comes back to the article being placed on themed site, with appropriate anchor text. Best to mix and match your anchor text so not make SE's aware that your looking to gain rank on a single term/phrase.

James,
Have you seen any more results (9 months later) from your article submissions? Has there been any lasting traffic or links from them?

I've just started a brand new site, and I submitted one article to isnare.com<< using an "article credit".
the results should be relatively pure in the sense that there are no other IBLs anywhere. The only source of incomming links will be isnare (or the remote change of natural IBLS from content)..

No traffic. Links you can check by doing a search but even if there are a few, I'm sure they're not real strong. Someone here said the best way to do it is to find good sites and have them publish an original article rather than submitting your article to 250 pretty identical sites...
