Link baiting is when you create a page/ content that you feel will gain popularity quickly. This page is called link bait because it acts as bait (decoy). The viewers of the page take the bait and link back to the site on other sites.
The idea is to attract natural backlinks...

To get the perfect linkbait fodder:
- Get a news story out before anyone else
- Be the definitive resource
- Launch a competition/ quiz/ contest
- Include healthy humour
- Write catchy, informative content with killer headlines
- Create belonging/ community

Link bait can be anything from a content, tools, service, offer or anyother feature that can generate a lot of attention from others in terms of traffic or links or both of them.
