The best tool i have seen is Majecticseo.com .. You have to pay a subscription but is very very useful...

Spy Glass can get your ip banned from the service provider. I happened with me when I used SEO powersuite , unfortunately It happened twice so be careful.
I use SEOmoz and some times , SEO spyglass ( cautiously) to research links.

I just watched a Seomoz video and I got the impression that they would only be able to give you the same links from google that you could get on your own. They said they could only get up to 1000 backlinks from the seach engine so that is all they could show you. It seems therefore that if you can look them up yourself it might be better that way. But I hesitate to say that as post hoc ergo propter hoc has been proven to be logical fallacy. I am sure that there are other benefits in their program that make it worthwhile.

Moderator, i notice you have jumped in when there has been anything negative to say but i dont see you offering assistance or advice on the matter.

personally i use a mixture of MS, online tools such as http://seoserp.com and good ol scrapebox.

I am not that interested in how my site or another sites serps are but just the competition.

there are a few tricks to easily grap the backlinks from the top 100 sites in your niche and extract thier backlinks and thus measure strength etc.

seo spyglass is an okay tool ( bit expensive ). i have a pro version of traffic travis that i got for free and that s pretty stable tool.
