Adding/changing content will drop my rankings within search engines (MSN Search)?

Adding/changing content (banners, text, etc.) will drop my site's rankings within search engines (for example - MSN Search) after crawler visits my site again?

I have few sites ranked top-5 in MSN. And I need to make few changes like adding banner on top of the page & changing few text parts, but I am afraid that this will cause my sites to drop in rankings. I don't want to take this risk...

What is your experience here?

I don't think you will drop in serps by changing a few things. Just be sure not to get rid of your H1, H2s, and other important tags. I would keep as much text as possible. Don't replace text with images if you can help it.

Well, changing text is fine according to me if you keep your important keywords in h1 and h2 tags, bold and italic the keywords in your text.

Everything you do will effect your raking for better or worse be it insignificant. Don’t let this put you off progressing your site. MSN has historically preferred fresher content.

I don't think adding content and a banner on top would drop your site's ranking but changing the content specially the words for which your site is ranked high will certainly affect your site's rankings.

Maybe you shall think revisely, during the period, many new website with the same target keywords have been added in MSN search, so probably their onpage/offpage SEO do better than you and cause your website dropped.

Well... if you replace some text and add few then yes certainly there be change in rankings.. and one suggestion dont bother about MSN much you cant figure them out... one day you will be #1 for your keyword and after a week you will be nowhere to be found...

Adding content can only help IMPROVE your ranking

Changing Content can go both ways, depends on what your changing it to

Taking away content can only be bad..

True, plus, just to be safe, if you are adding a banner on the top of your site, you may consider using layers in CSS so that in HTML coding the banner comes after the useful content.
