I think a great place to start this discussion is with SEOmoz' recent blog post on their SEO predictions for 2012.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/8-predict...or-seo-in-2012
Personally I would like to see Bing increase its market share as Google has good much power at the moment.

I predict that the US government will require a business license for SEO gurus because there are so many who don't know squat.

Re: SEO Predictions for 2012
SEO predictions for 2012 ... am also interested to know. I have no prediction about SEO trends this year, but I can is: The same thing will happen, let's just hope other people will switch to bright side, I mean will stop using their black hat technique and play fair.
Consider this message of Matt Cutts about the question: "Will SEO still exists in 5 years?", taken from the thread: The future of SEO after Google Panda
Quote:

... The hope is that the black hat or sometimes the illegal book stuff, crap hat, whatever you wanna call it, the stuff that truly kinda annoying if you're a site owner, the stuff that pollutes or clogs up the web that will not be as productive and so my hope is more more people keep switching to white hat, more more people will learn about SEO but don't necessarily have to be an expert and they can us self serving tools like the Webmaster console or other search engines consoles to help them out on SEO.
|
Check out my post on that thread for the whole video transcribe.
Thanks,
MrSS

Don't predict. Just watch & analyse SERP yourself. You will find the answer.
I don't live in prediction.

I agree.
I think it is amusing, when people offer seo services, but go to forums and ask rookie seo questions. lol
As far as the prediction. I think Social Networking data is going to out weigh backlinks.

well, one prediction I can't make is that google will keeping adding more and more of their own ad space to the area 'above the fold' as I guess it's called, as in many cases now there is but one or two visible organic search results visible in that area on many inquiries, so I guess they cant do much more than that to 'optimize' their profit ratio.....
or can they??
really, is there no other (capitalist) business model except this one?
i read the articles linked out to above, and I would like to paraphrase Twain and say that the reports of the death/demise of the Link Graph have been greatly exaggerated.....

In 2012 you may be successful in SEO of your site. Although search engines has brought some changes to their algorithm. So you need to perform your SEO job according to that.

As of now I understand that Google bot is more intelligent than previous. Using exact targeted keyword in anchor tag will not make noticeable change in rankings. Keywords variation will be important other wise Google will be considering the website as spam by using their filter system. Content popularity will play significant role for rankings. So contextual linking will be very important wiki is the best example for that.
As per my perceptions now bad sing for the webmasters who do outsource and applied same practice for acquiring back links which is above mentioned but it is good sign for those who believe in quality content and link baits which are aesthetically right.

If the war on quality (or lack of quality better put) continues more sites that rely on manipulation through spamming links will go down and the quality ones that are really popular will rise. lets hope so.

I really hope we see the death of info graphics. They were cool and helpful to start with but now I basically just see them as spam. Hopefully people stop linking to them and sharing them and the fad will slowly die off.

I was thinking the same thing. SEOmoz (correction: Youmoz blog) just did i think there first info graphic a day or 2 ago if you visit there blog right now. lol
They was popular at first but now everyone is trying to create these thinking they will get a ton of link love. Most of them are the same with different graphic's and a few words changed in them.

I have question about this http://www.cyber-key.com/SocialSEO/seo-trends-2012/
Anchor text decreases in value? More than one SEO observed recently that the anchor text of new links seemed to immediately push down the rankings for the same query strings.
1) What does it mean? I or someone else post link with anchor text to my website and my website goes down for anchor text keyword .....?
2) Keyword (anchor text) spam. How many links with the same anchor text are deemed as spam? Or it depends on website (how many page website has)?
