For Local SEO you just target particular keyword which belongs to your local area and city. You should also work on to build the back links from local websites. There are also many ways like do the local listing and submit some local directory as well. But, In all cases the Keyword plays an important role for that.

If you want some good local SEO just use your facebook account and add locations using your websites name. It works just check in from time to time if you can. If not it still picks up the location with your sites name.
Googles Index picks up local business check ins on Facebook. I see them all the time.

You can get your business listed on google local maps & popular local business directories. Ask for customer reviews to give feedbacks on their visit and experience of dealing with you.

Best way to start Local SEO , is to identify first the Local SEO Authoritive sources. If you go for national wide local directories and start posting backlinks on them will not help, as most probably everybody else is doing this.
First you must run a local search query on the desired keywords, identify the local authority, blogs, forums, Social Media pages and after do your best to get a review from all those sources, a review meaning not a spam backlink .
This is the way that always works.... If you will only do generic SEO , without focusing on the Local Authoritive sites in most of the cases you will fail against your competitors

Thanks for sharing that. I am a little surprised at the statistic that 97% of consumers search for local businesses online. I would have thought there was enough of an older population buying things that don't look online, but still use the phone book or go by friend recommendations. Interesting.

The thing is that if you search for a common keyword as "web design", which from my POV has nothing to do with Local Business as the service could be easily provided world wide via internet, Google Organic SERPs are different based on the user city location in US. Thats why the statistics shows 97% of consumers searching for local businesses. Many of them dont even know the results are local ... but google does, and it delivers the closest ones.

If you want to target local audience then you need to target keywords including your city or area. For example:
If you site is related to mobile repair and the city in which you are located is Manchester then your targeted keywords should be "mobile repair in Manchester" , "Manchester mobile repair" this should be the search for local audience related to your business.

Is only half true, because users looking for pizza from NY as example , are searching also for Pizza Delivery only, without specifying the location, and Google ( or other search engine ) do the rest, by providing Local Results based on user IP address ( city location )
So is good to target also generic keywords as "pizza delivery", "pizza", "pizza restaurant" but by running a Local SEO campaign.

If a page is meant for local use, you will normally see signs in it. Things such as phone numbers with that particular area code or the name the area or the city. These are signs to search engines that the page or the site is meant for local use.

For example.
If I am focusing on a niche of clubs and I want to target people in richmond I will target a keyword like this "clubs in Richmond" and just do simple SEO.
Is that a right way to do it??? or for local SEO we have to do something different. ????
please reply and post some helpful tip along with free Ebook resource if you can.
thank you all

The fundamentals in Normal SEO is the same as that in Local SEO but the approach is different, one thing is you have to have Google + Local and So as that from Yahoo.

I agree with you that you called Yellow page submissions. But if you want to promote your business address or your contact information then Yellow pages are good. If you want to promote your product or keywords then go through with my first suggestion.

There is a lot of difference between organic search results and local map results. First of all they do not require links. They rather need correct address as per google places submission.

Most of the important aspects of Local SEO have already been detailed. I'd like to complete the discussion with a tool no one has mentioned so far: Keywordsearchrankings.com - it enables you to check SERP results as they are displayed in certain geographical regions. For example, you can check what sites rank for "pizza" in different cities and countries. This, I believe, makes the tool quite interesting to anyone doing Local SEO.

I think SEO is same no matter it's local or normal but if you are targeting local traffic use local keywords and local directories.

Remember to add specific information concerning location into your keywords, key phrase, tags, topics of posts, etc. And then focus on submitting to local directories. Local yellow paper and local newspaper are also helpful if you want to spread the word concerning your business and website in the neighbourhood.
You could also try sending out fliers or posts in your local area if you could spare the time to distribute them around and could afford the cost of getting printed Ads.
