They could have. If they did it would be by submitting your links to pages of higher PR. With backlinks from pages with a higher PR it can increase your own PR as well.

Why to pay for high PR directories??Update your content and if they are with quality source you can freely submit on those directories.Instead invest some money on google adwords campaign.

Yes, the guys from paid directories are swift boys when loaded with your green bugs.
I never pay for the directory listings. They say the link is permanent one but, if they see drop in business, the directory ends up sometimes, as a domain for sale at GoDaddy auction.

Definitely it effects you ranking reason is that High PR directories are more beneficial than low PR. It gives good back links.

Why pay for directories? It certainly would not hurt, but some companies which can afford to do so like to get listed in paid directories because some of the free directories are filled with junk.

Also, how can one, like Google Adwords, serve a better purpose than a directory? That is like comparing apples to oranges, they serve two different purposes, and as said before, and some say again, for online marketing, organic search results, and search engine marketing you have to use every single method to gain a competitive advantage.

a paid directory is just like a paid backlink,they improve your ranking the same way.
but a directory may help google to consider your sites as to belong to a certain category,thus improving your keywords correlation.

when you say high value as quality directories then yes it might affect your site rankings, lets take for example yahoo directory, its paid but google still consider it..

I don't believe on paid directories because their costs are very high and there are lots of great directories providing free services so why to choose paid directory.

How would it differ if you used a free directory instead of a paid one? Besides that, the OP asked how it would effect their site and not whether or not it was advisable to use free/paid directories. I'm also curious to know, because I could use this in my campaign.

I guess it has his pros and cons, (cons been, well... you actually have to pay ) but it gets your links and articles accepted and indexed quicker than the ones you don't pay but have to wait for actual people (human beings) to review your content, so sometimes is a pain

It is not necessary that only paid links is more powerful, there are many free directories from where you can get quality links which helps you to get ranking easily.

No not all paid directories work, i only consider Yahoo Directory its really very much helpful. And there are so many free high PR directories available, you might use that first rather than paying and all.
