Inside Yahoo! Search: What’s Next?

hmmmm, new boss so i'd expect more things out of Yahoo if they want to attempt to beat Bing who just took over the number 2 spot.

Check out this article.

Since the start of the Internet, Yahoo! has been dedicated to transforming online search, and continues to focus on what’s next. We believe the next three to five years in search are going to inspire a dramatically different experience designed for an even more inquisitive and information-thirsty users.

With more interactive ways to consume content in the form of images, videos, apps, music, social media feeds, maps and shopping, people are demanding more from their search results. Weeding through a page of blue links is no longer the answer. There is an amazing wealth of data and content available, and Yahoo has access to much of that content because of its focus on properties like...

Sounds interesting ... A blog post of promises and pretenses.
I notice the blog post contains promises that made me say .. "Well, let's see. I will watch out for that"

Bragging statement,
Of all search engines, Yahoo has the best content available ...
however, a bit off:
... and we are just starting to utilize this content in both Yahoo Search and in new and transformative products like Yahoo Search Direct.
As predicted, mobile SEO in the future year will be more feasible, it supports this line:
... We envision mobile search will surpass PC search by 2016.
But it's on the next 4 years ahead! Darn!

In all, after reading the entire blog post I can say Yahoo! felt when Bing take over their spot among top search engine world wide, thus this blog post looks like more of a priority and target goals for them this year and on the future.

No where in the post did it mention their search contract with Bing.

Yahoo's contract with Bing is 10 years, and doesn't expire until 2019. By that time, Bing will have a greater search presence and Yahoo will be way behind. That's assuming, Microsoft doesn't renew the contract or buy Yahoo in the meantime.

ROFL! According to some of my SEO friends .. Yahoo was already dead 3 years ago. The real search engine war right now is between Google and Microsoft.
