I can assure you that Google is working toward making this a reality. It is in their best interest.
Easier said than done for Google, of course, but you have to take it into serious consideration.

True, but not possible for a third party web site to track. Google could gather the info from their analytics package and toolbar. But an average user on an average web site is impossible to track.

I am into this profession since last 2.5 years and what i do is very basic, the concept of the seo strategies are the same as it was before,
Off course some times the Google do change its Algorithm, not doesn't overrule the basic concept....
So i think the seo should start writing good concept for the websites.
as they know seo and its concept and they can easily in touch with the seo strategies, So to keep the earning of the seo's stable...they should extend their earning by start writing good content.
SEO is not hard to learn and the main thing is to keep ourselves updated.
I don't remember any seo who only do seo, because only seo means changing meta and titles will not be a successful person in Internet Marketing.
Almost every seo knows link building, blogging, forum promotion, group promotion, email marketing.
SEO will never die till SE exist.... Don't Worry...SMILE PLEASE

webexpertz, you mentioned some SEO strategies like link building, blogging, forms, email marketing.
I am curious to know how blogging can help the content website, we have a custom home builder website promoting new homes, I am curious how blogging can help the site optimization.
Same thing with forums and email marketing, are they relevant for the websites like this one.
I am newbiew to SEO, these questions may sound weird, thanks in advance.

Blogging would be a great place for you to write mini info that you have picked up here and there, or had the sudden urge to write, but would not fit in another page of your website.
WIth blogging, you can just write it all, and post it. Hassle-free, and providing information for readers. The better your blog, the more traffic comes obviously. Then, just link your blog to your main website (subtly of course).
You could tell them that if they are looking for more information on certain issues then advise them to visit your website. Then add a link at the end. Instant traffic. But of course, don't overdo the links.
Anyways, most importantly is to write a blog that is related to your website, it makes no sense to write a blog about dog food when you are trying to sell clocks. (lame comparison, i know, but the idea is there).
In your case, just look for blogs that talk about building a website. Look for forums that are related to creating a website. THen post a few helpful advices that would help other people, and subtly tell them that they would benefit more by visiting your site. Simple as that actually.

Kickstart, no self promotion allowed here. If you want to put your website link in your signature, go to your UserCP and add it. Don't be plugging your site in your posts here.

Quality content is certainly important. My recommendation for several years now has been to write your content for your visitors/customers/prospects, not for search engines.
The reality is that clicks are a cost center unless they convert to sales. Content written for the search engines does not generally convert.
Fortunately, since Google entered the scene, there have been ways to achieve high rankings other than SEO'ed content.

Additional ranking factors maybe added but I think the biggest impact (happening already actually) will be how the seo features are implemented - Specifically inbound links and anchor text.

Important Update!
Heh.. SOrry about that John, didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that..
Won't happen again, definitely!
Anyways, just got news that Google just updated their algorithms.
Just wondering whether anyone has witnessed any significant changes, be it positive or negative ones..
This would be a great lesson for everyone as we analyze the new methods of Google's spiders, and thus weed out useless SEO methods whilst implementing new ones (which are coming in by the hundreds, though mostly from people trying out their ideas on SEO, and no necessarily from any of the major search engines).
