1) Are your backlinks diverse? Backlinks can be a mix of high
PR and low
PR, various IPs from different geographical locations.
Imagine you release a news-breaking piece of content. Anyone from any part of the world can link to you. Those links are spread throughout the world(geographical diversity) and can be from any authority website(High
PR) or from a new website(PR0).
2) How much competition exists for your keyword? What is your competition doing which you are not doing?
Do what your competition is not doing (better them in all areas - content, backlinks, social interaction and more) and you will definitely win!
3) Gain your customers. Don't ever wait for the traffic till the ranking comes - Identify where your visitors will be. Go there and turn your visitors into customers. Interact and keep providing something new to them. The ranking follows.
If your customers feel your site is important, Google makes your site important!
