I think it depends on the competition level of the keyword. For a highly competitive keyword you will have to work very hard. Even you have a less competitive keyword, you can't make this type of bondage.

Its all about link juice. For ex. If you submit your PR to a free directory and its written poorly, you are not likely to benefit. However if you submit to PRWEB or another reliable PR firm, and you stay up to date with current events you can write something that will attract your audience and drive some real link juice.

First thing is that you write good quality content and get good quality backlinks for this content.

This seems like a generic response. Any other tips to mention that will help the thread creator out?

If you really want those rankings to go up, you would have to do a lot of work, and it's going to take time before you're going to see the results. I know that contradicts with what the others have said -- that it doesn't matter how much you do to rank -- but that's going to help. At least you're addressing some of the factors that can increase your rank.

One of the replies here mentioned something about having a formula for increasing rank. If there IS a formula that's similar to yours, everything would have been a lot easier for all of us.

Jackson123 and Luring have hit the nail on the head. It is entirely depending on the keywords you are trying to rank for. For example "snowmobile air conditioning kit" could possibly rank #1 with no work, however "mesothelioma lawyer" would take considerable work.

You can not really predict the results. You need to be patient enough. Ranking is not an overnight job. Be consistent with your practices and always offer a quality and unique content.

I found a old blog post worth taking a look at. (It's 3 years old so it's a little out of date)

http://www.searchenginejournal.com/2...gorithm/15457/

And here is another old blog post: http://www.instantfundas.com/2009/11...in-google.html

If anyone has a updated list, please share it because i can't find one.

if we do not talk about content and all it still needs a lot more than those backlinks 50dir, 10 articles, 10 forums, 40 comments, Q/A's and lot more you have to do in a week to achieve good rank

Google's SERPs constantly fluctiate, so there is no steady 1st page results. There is also NO formula.

I'm ranked on page 1 for about 3 different keyword phrase's for a long time now and still don't know how i did it. Could be i was promoting those pages for 2 years straight. I just think that i'm very lucky or my competitors for those keywords got nailed by Google.

Just keep promoting and the rankings will improve over time. Even if you make it to page 1, don't stop promoting at all. I've learned that rankings can go up and down a lot.

SEO is a process that is something that needs to be dynamic in order to be successful in competitive areas. You are looking very short term but need to focus more on longer term goals.

To add to what other members have said:

1) Are your backlinks diverse? Backlinks can be a mix of high PR and low PR, various IPs from different geographical locations.

Imagine you release a news-breaking piece of content. Anyone from any part of the world can link to you. Those links are spread throughout the world(geographical diversity) and can be from any authority website(High PR) or from a new website(PR0).

2) How much competition exists for your keyword? What is your competition doing which you are not doing?

Do what your competition is not doing (better them in all areas - content, backlinks, social interaction and more) and you will definitely win!

3) Gain your customers. Don't ever wait for the traffic till the ranking comes - Identify where your visitors will be. Go there and turn your visitors into customers. Interact and keep providing something new to them. The ranking follows.

If your customers feel your site is important, Google makes your site important!
