SEO - Targeting Keywords and Meta keywords

hello everyone...

i've just started learning html/css and i came across about SEO...

for the most experienced ones... does meta keywords still significant these days?

and if you want to target a keyword or keywords, can you target one or more keywords at the same time? and that you can make your site on top of SERP, using one or more keywords? lets say... you are targeting 3 keywords, can you use seo techniques to rank on top of SERP, with the 3 keywords you've chosen to use?

i am very new to these stuffs... please someone explains this one.

meta keywords is not used by Google

You can target as many keywords as you want however the more you target the harder you will find it to make the page strongly focus on each one.

I tend to target a subject per page and find out the keywords that are most popular for that subject. Have the top keyword well targeted (e.g. title & heading) while considering the others when writing your content. Always keep things natural and readable for your visitors.

Well I dont think meta keyword is that much important issue nowadays.Google reckon to have a good title and description in their SEO starter guide and adding your main keyword in title may have some good positive results in search engines.

@ishuvonet

yes, meta keyword isn't that important, as what Tiggerito have mentioned.

Where to read Google SEO Starter Guide? and how to add your main keyword if you want to target 1 or more keywords?

say for example, i want to rank first with the keywords:

1. seo for newbies
2. seo advance
3. seo tutorials

may i hear your answer on this one? and about the google guide?

Google SEO Starter Guide

I'd become a real SEO guy before trying those keywords

They are targeting different audiences so I would have all of them on their own page.

I'd research what search terms people use related to your chosen term.

I'd then focus the content (as stated before) on the most popular terms people use.

And don't forget, the content has to be useful/interesting/correct or your wasting your time.

I can't help you there. I'm a real SEO guy not a copywriter or marketer. Those will be the next lessons you will have to take

Google is not using meta keywords then any other major search engines like yahoo or bing or others using the meta keywords? and i recently read that google search algorithms has been merged into bing, so we need to just concentrate on Bing optimization and it will be automatically reflected to yahoo. Is meta keywords important for optimization in the Bing?

i would say the same...

every time we need to say... i read it from somewhere... you rather must specify the source.

how can you justify what you have just mentioned... and we're also not convinced by just saying..

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I have 30 targeted keywords for my home page, but as they are all related to the same content I don't find it difficult to focus on them all. Well that's not strictly true, I do focus on some more than others but what I really mean is I am easily able to include them all.The keywords are just variations of the same, e.g. same words but in different order, plurals and synonyms. Of my 30, 25 are high competition and 5 medium so I'm not going for easy targets but I have 19 on page 1 of Google and the lowest SERP of any of them is 26.
When Google analyzes a page it expects to find keywords that are relevant to what that page is meant to be about. As you said, it doesn't use the meta tag any more, it gets this from the page, i.e. it decides on what your keywords are by frequency of use. So to me it makes sense to use a variety of relevant keywords that can be worked into the content so that it makes sense to the user and helps with SERP.
I tie this in with my link building so that I can use all those words as anchor text and retain relevancy to the page.

I agree with what you said :-)

Targeting a set of semantically similar words and phrases generally makes your content more readable and broadens your target market.
