Google keyword tools not accurate???
Hey quick question on using google keyword tool. I recent started trying to rank my site for a keyword that googles keyword tool says get 60k local monthly searches for the broad keyword, AND 15k for the exact keyword.
I have finally made it to the 3 spot on page 1 for this keyword. However I am only getting about 5 visits a day...
Where is my traffic???

Even though it may be searched for X amount of times daily, it doesn't mean your site is in the X position for every search. Google's SERPs constantly fluctuate.

Just because you made it to the 1st page doesn't mean the traffic is going to start flowing in at large volumes.
Have you considered how catchy your title and meta description are? Do they compel someone to click your link?

Are you sure your in that top 3 spots? If your signed in to your google/gmail/g+ account it saves your searches and you might not be seeing your true results. Now I have attempted to use googles keyword tool but it is not accurate at all I know this for a fact because i am generating more traffic from a term that is in spot 5 on google then 4 and the spot 4 according to google is searched for double the amount 300,000 global a month.

That is true, just because you are on the first page of google doesn't guarantee automatic massive traffic. I'm on the first page too, but still working to get the traffic. Like was mentioned, catchy title and meta description.
Have you tried something other than google keyword tool? Using Market Samurai myself.

that measurement is also the average over a 12 month period, if your keyword is highly cyclical then there may not be that many visitors this time of year - keep that in mind.

Google keyword tool was designed for AdWords, it's a shame so many marketers push using it for keyword research. This is where many fail to target proper keywords because they seen a video, ebook, or forum post about using google keyword tool for their keyword research.
Also something many do not realize if Google keyword tool says 60k global monthly, they do not mean "blank keyword" = 60k instead what it means is:
The keyword and all semantically related keywords = 60k global monthly. In other words the 60k could include 10 or 15 keywords and not 1 keyword.

To get your site on top ranked on any keyword and getting traffic to your site, both are two separate things.

No one tool is 100 % accurate we have to do it manually rather then using any tool.

First of all i would like to say,no keyword tool can tell you exact search volume they just shows a prediction.
Second if a website have a rank on Google first page it doesn't mean website will get huge traffic.Because the most important factor how you create meta title and meta description. Can they attract a visitor to click on your website when you website appears in search snippet. So I think you should do some more work on your website. You can also target some more keywords to increase your organic traffic.
Thanks

It's really nice sharing about the Google keyword tool. I think Google keyword Tool is designed as queries of Google search engine. So it is perfect for Google.

Ask yourself this:
If Google Keyword Tool was created for keyword research for marketers then why is it it listed in the adwords members area ?
This is exactly why many get their keyword research wrong and they think they have a top listing for a big keyword when in fact they don't.

Very good point. Didnt think of this and realized my titles and everything was much different than my competition for the keyword. Changed it up and am getting a little traffic...12 people a day but looks like its going up.
My webmaster tools says that i am getting about 8000 impressions though a month...increase of 6,000%... Will wait a month and see what my actual # is. I am in the #3 spot on page 1.

Yah, Google is giving accurate results, it doesn't mean when you ranked 1st in the SERP you will surely got the exact number of search volume in a keyword.

It gives the results Google wants it to give to AdWord users and not marketers doing keyword research for SEO on site and off site. Many seem to forget that Google is a business and as such they create tools such as the keyword tool to be used for them making money on AdWords.

I think Google encourages the use of their Keywords tool by marketers. This way advertiser would be more happy as well! Don't you think so?

Hello. Just to ask, when you optimized your website - did you optimize for the users or optimized it for SE crawlers?
In my own personal view, you might have optimized your website only for SE crawlers at all - not much on users (which is TRAFFIC) which is maybe why you are only getting 5 out of that 60k visitors/searches.
If you could have probably optimized your website first for users, the traffic that you are getting should be in good numbers. But since you might have only optimized for SE crawlers, you only got to the best position yet not getting enough traffic that you should have.
The tip: Optimized first for USERS (traffic) and second only are for SE crawlers.
To get TRAFFIC, if you are still not using social media and networking sites, you better start using it now. If you are already using it, then you might have been missing something else to drive more traffic to your website through these social media sites.
Also about keyword tools, not all tools are actually accurate - that is why a lot of webmasters uses not only one, nor two - but three or more tools in every tasks mostly that they do. But though they are not going to give you same numbers and data, they will actually give you more like a "range" for every data you get from them - letting you determine to which keyword/data/analysis will you depend on or create.
Thanks,
MJ T.
