Sub domain pages respond higher in SERPS then homepage

I cannot understand why this is happening. When i do a search for my products, calling cards, a page of the main domain is the 24 response in Google. If i scroll one more page in SERPs i see the link to my homepage. If i am not actively exchanging links for the a page of the domain name, why would it come up before the homepage in the SERPS?

Google see's this page as being more relevant for the search term than your homepage
(- perhaps it more geared to the search phrase than your homepage?)

I don't think this is the case. Google seems to be 'broken' these days as far as subdomains are concerned. In any case, your subdomain listing should soon vanish from the serps once google re-initiates your site.

so does that mean that i should actively be seeking links for this page, because it has a better chance of responding in the SERPS?

or i should keep link building for the homepage and intern that will affect the rankings of my subsequent pages.

I agree, this page is more relevant. my site does a variety of telecom services and this is the page where you can view all calling cards.

Google serps only respond the way you build your links. If you feel a certain page is more important, then build links to it and increase its relevance. From your remark, i would conclude that you are trying to say that both pages have the same or almost the same content. If that's the case, i would suggest that you sacrifice one page (the least important to your eyes) and concentrate your linkage on the other.

And yea, link building to your homepage is a never ending process and its supposed to be your most important page on your site.

the homepage is our most important page. But it displays all of the telecom products available at our store. the subsequent page displays the details for each individual telecom product.

the home page has a T1 service, long distance, calling cards, prepaid phones etc.

the page that is responding is specifically for calling cards.

But, since you are targeting more than 1 keywords for your homepage, it would be wiser to concentrate your your link building on this "calling card" page. Always focus on one niche theme per page (unlike what you are doing for your homepage).
