I will compare the keywords I find with Google Keyword tool against Market Samurai. Might be overkill but trying to find the good keywords is a huge plus.

Good one. Use all the tools that you can get, and compare the results. Who knows? Maybe the collated results are a lot better than just using a single keyword research tool.

Take the keyword from what service you are trying to offer to a specific or targeted consumer. You mentioned your website relates to VPN, which I presume means Virtual Private Network, you can use this as your keyword along with a modifier to help lower down the competition. Let's say, you want to target consumers of VPN from Australia. Since Virtual Private Network is obviously a high competition, by adding Australia will cut down the competition by some percent. So, your keyword will read like Virtual Private Network Australia. In case this version still is very competitive, you can stress it by including an identifier. Answer the question, which part of Australia you want to target? Sydney. Then, your keyword will be Virtual Private Network Sydney Australia. By using this version of the main keyword, you are not only targeting final keyword, but also the first two that were mentioned.

i'd recommend finding competitor sites and using a site like backlinkwatch to generate keywords for it an do research on them. try and find high numbers with less competition, and optimize your way to the top of the SERPs. i don't imagine there'd be a lot of keywords relating around VPNs though. best of luck!

I would suggest you to think for some possible keywords that searchers may use to find your website. Try to put yourself in the shoes of searchers. Once you've come up for some good list of keywords, then check their search volume in different keyword tools and try to compare their data results.
