Maybe I should start a certification service
Sell Aaron's SEOBook to someone, test them on it, then sell them a certificate and digital badge for $500.

Naw, V7N certified is cheaper. Just link to v7n from every page of your site and we'll certify ya.

Just cause we drink a lot of coffee and read v7n late at night (or at work) only makes us certifiable!

We wouldn’t need one. Results speak for themselves than any certificate could ever could. But then again there are so many sharks out there I can see the need.

I think certification is for the potential client only. I think it gives people an amount of comfort thinking that the person/company they are working with took the time to sift thru information and pass a test (even if it's basically useless, it's like any other diploma you get - you have to keep learning).

I'm a certified asp.net developer, my husband is a certified windows network guy, and we've both taught certification classes.
The system barely proves anything.
An SEO cert would be as meaningful to me as a PhD from China (aka "nada").
One of the smartest programmers I've worked with was in an Indian who was not entitled to go to school but won some sort of engineering contest and so got in and made it to America.
Paper is meaningless.
Whenever an industry has more players than chairs it invents a certification system.
Bottom line -- you want certification? Give me a keyword in the top 3 of the big 3 and we'll talk.

having certification would be good thing for the clients to judge the company they are looking to work. because now a days finding a right guy for work is very hectic job and if freelancers or SEM companies get the certificate then it would be worthful for them and clients too.
Over all future seems to be bright for SEM pro's with professional certificate.

Your ability to work with SEO is better shown in your portfolio and achievements rather than certification.

agreed, but don't you think clients like it when a company/person is certified in what they do?

Nah. All you nned is a peice of paper saying that someone thinks you know SEO and has signed it. Kinda like a drivers license.

Yes, its true that it would be just like Driver's License. But you know there would be certain parameter's.

Can you imagine all them people selling fake certifications.
No, its a waste of time - the only way you can certify for yourself that the company / individual knows what they are doing is by the results, and experiences of other clients.

Maybe not, especially if they are aware the way SEO evolves that there is a difficulty in setting a standard someone should adhere to. It's easy to fake a certification.
But then again I am wrong.
