Best Way In Google Update

Well... As we all know every now and then Google Panda is updating. But what can you recommend good SEO to their latest update?

Now needs to focus more on backlink quality, diversity, and distribution of IP, and Black Hat techniques need to be more careful.

Good SEO is the same as it always has been. Write great content, share with a network and build links naturally through exchange, link bait and social media.

Bad SEO is where the problem has got worse. Now you need to avoid spammy links because Google has doubled their "Over Optimisation" penalty.

Totally correct, couldn't have said it better.

Curious, what would you class as "spammy links" and why do you think Google will penalize a site for them?

Spammy Links?

Well Google has already said, and sent out, "over optimisation" notices through the Webmaster tools. I think there has been a lot of speculation as to what Google would class as "spammy" but mostly it appears to be judged on volume of links, identical anchor text, location of links and the page all those links are pointing to. So if you are using Xrumer or something to post the same links in forums, I would think about dialling it down a little.

You are right that using automated tactics need to be toned down, though optimisation can only apply internally, to the site itself.

Scenario:

Let's say you are an SEO company and so am I. Now I feel that your company is costing me work and we are both at about the same level within the google database for similar key phrases.

Now I decide to use some unscrupolous methods and use xrummer to drop 1000's of links onto porn and xrated forums for your site. Also, I use ScrapeBox to drop 1000's of links onto xrated blogs for your site.

Ideally, this method would knock out all my competition and before you know it, every company online is now waging it's own secrete war against its rivals in this way.

Google would have now created a battleground where black-hat methods will run rife and be used against each other. They know this and I doubt they will allow this to happen.

That is the way it used to be. Except now, if you search around, you will see that there have been people penalised for over optimisation with off page factors;

Good articles, and yes, you are right, though as the google message states in their notes to their clients
Quote:
"If you find unnatural links to your site that you are unable to control or remove, please provide the details in your reconsideration request."
They are aware that someone could do this to you or me and give us a way out in case it does happen.

They have to otherwise all big businesses would be pushing aside the smaller ones.

Of course they have a way out, but how long would you be penalised before the problem is fixed? What about being penalised, but not notified?

I think Google is going down a dangerous path here.

I agree and If they do then it won't be too long before Bing raises in profile against them.

I am still not convinced they are going to carry out every threat and the only way they can do this is if they have proof that it was the company that did this and not a rival to them.

Can you imagine if they penalized another multi-million dollar company and that company found out that Google penalized them based on a rival getting them xrated links? Companies would soon start trying to turn on Google and claim back the millions lost in revenue due to Google unfairly penalizing them..... Very dangerous game indeed and I am still not fully convinced just yet.

It just takes one company to win a case against them and then the floodgates will open against them and I am not sure they can take that chance.

Quality web content and thematic back links are required. Google is very strict about quality SEO.

Google's looking to reward those who have high quality content on their site, so I think it's best if you're going for that. Well, the game's always been like that; if you share something that's high quality, the higher the chances that you'll be linked to. If you're sharing something that has the quality of a software that would rename "Salt Lake City" to "Sodium Body of Water Town," then expect your site to be on a downward spiral.

By the way, here's the link to that post about Google rewarding the high-quality sites:
