Again i have to agree with Donnie - My opinion backlinks and content are the two main factors to start to rank high in search engines. If you do not mind me asking what do you class as a backlink?
Please explain just a few questions
1) What do you class as a backlink
2) How did you come to this conclusion
3) How much time have did you leave it to come to this conclusion
I think if you go in to greater detail people here will be able to help you but we need to know why you are thinking this?
I would say you are making a simple easy mistake somewhere down the line to think that backlinks have no value.
Explain your link building process
This is mine:
1) dofollow links to every internal page with a maximum of 1 per page - external nofollow with maximum of 1 per page.
2) No backlinks from sites with more than 30 external links
3) 75% pr3 & above backlinks with a 25% mixture of lower value links
4) I also use this technique but most do not agree i will have to do an example as my vocab is quite bad

If i was to build 50 links per day each of those urls, in that format, each url would get 25 each instead of directing all my anchor text to mydomain.com.my-example-page
i add the / to split the total amount of links pointing to that url,google looks at this as a seperate backlink which means i can do double the amount of links per day without pushing my luck. (Well thats what i do i am not sure if its correct but it works for me so i dont need to change it)
People may or may not aggree with my strategie i am just using mine as a example i add up my competitors link value, and simple out do them with link value and content.
Also , this is another factor i take into consideration, I like my site to be able to fit any screen size, I do not have a good phone but i have sent my url to all my friends with different mobile phones to make sure every page is accesble using mobile browsers. This quite important make sure your site is mobile ready.
Also make sure all your backlinks are getting indexed its no good doing a 100 backlinks and not one gets indexed, maybe this is why you think backlinks have no value. A none indexed backlink is not yet a backlink,these are your baby backlinks yet to grow into strong
pr pushers.
I know this may sound rude if you have been doing this for a long time but if you are simply posting your links on facebook,twitter etc, these are not backlinks.
