If you change your sig link to a new site will that be counted?
I have a question about forum backlinks. My question is, if you are posting on dofollow forums like this one, that allows you to have dofollow links in your sig, if you change your sig link will that be counted?
In other words, I have 100 some odd posts here at v7n, and if I change one of my signature links to a new website that I am creating, will that sig keyword get 100 and some odd backlinks the next time the bot crawls it? How does this work?

That's a good question.
It's something thats had me puzzled for a long time.
When a site gets a back link, Google spiders a site...see a link to your site and count it as a backlink/vote...Now the question is...
Once that's been done...does Google check to see if that backlink is always there or if it was deleted? (which I doubt they do)
Google says it's a vote, thinking once it see's it and gives your site that vote...does it ever take it away if the link disappears?
(providing it's not from a spammy link farm or network)
I'm thinking it doesn't...once you get the vote you got it.
But we do see Google sending out un-natural link warning, and to clean them up and ask for re inclusion which would lead me to believe they do check links...but to what degree.
It's impossible to check..anyone else have any in-site on this?

Very interesting. I'm new to this world, so I assumed the signature would remain as it was at the time of the post. I just checked another forum, because I change my signature links every week. I did not realize the updated signature gets applied back to old forum posts. My inexperience revealed.
Anyway, I have some links that google logged a few months back from a site that I have to assume is crawled routinely, that have since been removed, and they are still appearing as links. Google has apparently not recognized they were removed, or even if they did, never went back and removed the "vote" from my list of backlinks.
Another factor is how frequently do those old posts get crawled, especially if there are no new posts being added to the page.
Just a newbie guess...I speculate once the backlink "vote" is received, then it stays forever.

It does for your blog link under your name.

No one really knows how Google counts a changed link. I do know that forum links are one of the weakest forms of linking. However the potential to meet other people to link to in forums are high.
I also know that Google can detect when a link is removed, and a link loss will influence your SERP results. I did an experiment with one of my sites on this.

Does that mean that it does count links in one single shot. That’s really shocking no wonder why the guys who have thousand of link on the forums sell their signature authority.

I think you will build another 100 forum signature for new site, because once you change signature then google will count it spam. Thanks

But what if keep putting links of same website again and again will those be counted as fresh backlinks.

Google used to check the content of a web page whenever it revisits the same page again. The actual content of the web page will be compared to the content in the Google index. If it has the difference, Google will again crawl the content of that web page and the changes will be included in its index so the changed signature links will be considered as back links.

Well, it could take some days (or maybe weeks!) until google visits again each page, but it will definately count each backlink again (just don't overdo this... by changing it every week!)

Bulk link drops would definitely affect the ranking of the website so be sure whether you should change your signature links.

Remember when you add the Signature at that time it gives you back for only those answers which you give with the same signature. so here your 100 post is count with your old signature. When you change the signature then it will start count from your newer answers.

Very interesting discussion! -- replacing your existing link with a new link on the forum, I believe whenever a change is made on the web it takes a certain period of time for Google to identify that change and grade it as good or bad. Its the same when you even add more pages to your website or delete any pages from your website, Google takes time to identify these pages and takes more time to recognize them and rank them above the competition.
Therefore, I think if you remove a link from you forum signature Google will take its time to identify this change and make impact accordingly.
