Over-Optimization-Avoidance

I am attempting to avoid over-optimization problems as many of my keywords. My website places multiple pages on the top page of Google for many sets of keywords.

Is there a reason to be worried that your website may have the #1234 spot on Google SERP?

The major problem is that many of my competitors have very little social networking. So although I don't even have a keyword in the geographical area when searching that the results still show up as 1,2,3,4

I'm not quite sure what your concern is over. If I understand you correctly you are out ranking the competition, and if there was a problem with over-optimization of your site you would know it by now.

Why would I know it?

And if you are hit by over optimization update, you should have seen changes in ranking...like dropping from your original ranks

First off, what Turkey Property wrote is true (until G comes out with Penguin 1.6). Kidding aside, there is no "over optimizing". There is either "optimizing" or "spamming". So as long as your using common sense, your fine. The penguin update was to drop sites using black hat techniques to rank, such as keyword stuffing, hidden text, etc. These techniques are not "optimizing".

Both over and under optimising are not good in terms of SEO. One should try to avoid it and build your site as naturally as possible.

If you many low PR backlinks to your site better remove them.
Also use Copyscape to check whether your contents/articles are being copied/duplicated....Google hate this.

I agree, and it is something that Matt Cutts perhaps wishes he hadn't said, because it probably dilutes the message. Rather like saying someone borrowed something without telling the owner, instead of that they stole it.

So that's why I've been bugged ever since that over-optimization term popped out. I was looking for some stuff that could tell how over-optimized a site is, and it had me thinking for days. After that, I decided to give it a rest and just let it rock because it's a piece of the puzzle that would make the Internet a better place. Thanks for mentioning it, guys! "Over-optimization," in my opinion, was just mentioned for the lack of a better term. SearchBliss hit the nail by mentioning that there is no over-optimization; there is only optimization and spamming.

Over optimization is not secure and also not good fact for website. Its good if your site on second page by white hat because you have chance to bring it up and other have fear about lose there ranking.
