SEO Mistake #11: Linking to bad neighborhood
Don't link to gambling/adult websites or to link networks designed to artificially inflate the number of links to your website.
In the eyes of a search engine, you usually cannot control who links to you, but you can control who you link to.
Thus, if bad sites link to you it does not hurt you. But if you link back, it does!

Great article!
The blog is starting to cover some interesting topics - just a shame that theres not much reader interaction, i.e. no one comments.

I think he blogs too often, I find it hard to keep up with everything and just click away because i'm too behind.
ie. 5 Topics in one day is a lot, especially if its about important stuff you want people to read.
Very good article though

That's a good point Nick.
I usually post 1 - 2 posts a day - when I first started the blog I don't think people cared if I posted at all, now if I don't post for a few days, I get emails asking where I am

1 to 2 is a good amount...anything more is hard for a reader to follow, especially if they check in once a day.
If they are good articles, like peter's, they should be spread out more to catch people's attention.
Patience is the key...
Very Nice blog by the way Darren, great stuff you got there!

accidental spam would be a good addition. That and linking a million times from the same site... I did it when I first got started without realizing. And so when I see spammers who don't realize what they are doing, I don't get upset... There is a difference between intentional and unintentional spam IMO.
not using anchor text too.

Wow. Short, yet pretty insightful. I would think that this would be a must for everyone who aspires to build an online empire. Could save hundreds from wasting their time doing useless SEO strategies.

Worst seo mistake ever? Paying $200 to some fly-by-night, so-called seo company that doesn't know their icehole from a hole in the ground. They build doorway pages, do keyword stuffing and other very scrupulous seo techniques and get you permanently banned for the search engines. Been there, done that.

Worst SEO mistake ever - thinking that copying what someone else does is going to work for your site.

Yeah, it's true. Though some minor SE consider pharmacy related sites as 'legal', the big guns certainly frown upon them.

According to Matt Cutts ' real eastate property' and ' mortgages' are bad neighborhoods. How can we follow this no-no advice, if Google turns out to be so tricky on defining what is relevant and what is not?
