Becoming a qualified SEO?
I am looking to further my skills in SEO i would like to attend university to learn advanced SEO has any studied SEO? Can you explain what qualifications I would need to do this course? My English is quite bad but my math is very good I have no GCSE and my hand writing is terrible do you think I would be able to get on an SEO course with no school qualifications? Or would I have to do English first?
I do not want to do any online courses I would like to go to a real university in my local area and learn face to face from a teacher I am just worried that I might have to attend English first and this I don’t want to do.
What steps did you take to become a qualified SEO?

First, your English is good enough, because you need to learn a lot of English Information.
Secondly, you need to understand PHP,HTML,C++..
And then, you need to know about GOOGLE, understand the principles of search engine

None of the SEOs I have worked with went to school for SEO. I do SEO work myself more and more, and my major in college was graphic design. I picked up all my knowledge through online classes, research, and trial and error on my own sites. If you decide to pursue it in college, I would recommend sticking to a little broader subject like online marketing so that you can also learn other techniques like SEM, analytics, social media, and things that complement SEO.
My best guess is you might do better to do an internship at a company where you will be exposed to real-world SEO. That way you would not only be learning techniques that are currently in use, but you would also be networking with people who may be able to help you find a job later. Best of luck to you, whichever path you choose.

There is no university or Institute for learning advance SEO since SEO made it self there is no fixed rule that can be learn at school.
So my suggest is to read more, learn more and experiment with few blogs of sites and keep update your self with Google's new algos

Does the value of SEO depends on the quality of authorized merits you have? Or on the real hard work that converts into valuable experience??

I feel that this answer is one of the best ways to go about mastering search engine optimisation, also, you don't have to be a master programming geek, but understanding the technologies behind websites are extremely important.
You can and should look into learning basic concepts of C programming, and also functional programming (mind you, just the basics will do for you)
And I will give you another idea to look into, and that is language (since you speak more than one language (English and the others you know) will allow you to understand and use semantics more efficiently (so you can naturally incorporate keywords within the documents you will target)
But above all else, there is no point to go to any university (unless Google is offering classes, by the way they actually do provide you great resources)
http://code.google.com/edu/
Because most university courses will teach you theories, but to be competent, you need to have hands on experience to understand what works and what doesn't, also what works better, and what takes more time etc.
You'll get there, be persistent, because this field has to be enjoyed, and requires special kind of person (with inquiring mind) and patience. You will love it if you are passionate, and since the question you put forth is based on passion. You'll do great Cheers

Study on your own. There is no need for you to learn SEO from a college as search engines are changing.
So have a better English better. And know something about programing. Know well about search engines.

You can't learn SEO from books. You learn by testing.

I think you need to have some good experience in SEO then you can learn SEO and get certifications. You do not need to have some kind of skills or writings or any kind of study to get a certificate.
Thanks

I do learn it my self online. There are many resources like Google webmaster quality guidelines, optimization tips (eBook), Google webmaster blog, SEOmoz, forums like v7n and many. All we have to do is research, analyze, practice. Practice and experiences makes you perfect in anything. So, no need to go to the college or institution. However, if you want to learn/understand the things easily, then you may opt for the courses offline.

SEO is nothing but Art. SEO doesn't require very strong English but skills. I know many people who even don't know how to speak but they are SEO guru's. I think you can easily teach your self through online tutorials and Best SEO blogs.

They certainly are no guru's then. SEO does require proper knowledge of the English language. Semantics, Related Words, Grammar, and Spelling is a huge part of SEO.
One of the huge problems is many go to those "gurus" to learn and go through tutorials and blogs for tips. They never test anything and take what they see as a golden rule. Another main part of SEO is Testing!
* I personally feel that word "Guru" is used not only wrong but far too much in marketing.

It's better to learn online. There are many sources and once you start, you can make it easy for yourself by learning online.
Make sure you are using the right sources and implement the ideas and strategies on your website.
