A naked link is where the url stands as the link, and there is not key word text with a hyperlink. However, I am curious about your comments regarding naked links being preferred...never heard that before. Would be interested in getting some more comments.

This is my first time to know this too. I think what Kayak said is similar to the right answer of your question. Maybe it is the url itself, without using keywords.

Hi Wilson,
I don't think Google necessarily prefers naked links after Penguin, but is likely taking a look more closely at sites that don't have any.
A typical website with a decent number of links will probably have a handful "naked links". So if a site doesn't have any, or only a few, that could set off a red flag.

Here ya go, Search Engine Watch has a post today with this definition:

Naked URLs consist of some variation of the actual URL of the link destination. This can be an internal page or, more commonly, the home page. Naked URLs are the strongest signal to Google of a “natural” inbound link profile and typically comprise the majority percentage of anchor text distribution in healthy websites. Examples include searchenginejournal.com, http://www.searchenginejournal.com, www.searchenginejournal.com, and http://searchenginejournal.com.

It is impossible that google is preferring naked links the only legitimate way to create links is hyper linking or anchor text.

I changed my signature link here as well as some others to naked links about a month after being hit by the most recent Google Penquin update and it has definitely helped!

Naked Links
Naked Links are also known as Bare links, URL stand alone as link instead of a hyperlink keyword. Naked links are less appreciated from Google.

They are not the hyperlinked keywords, they are the bare url's. Some says naked links are preferred over hyperlinks & some thinks vice-versa. I m not known to the fact, which to prefer or not. Till now i m going with the hyperlinks.

i think this is just a signal for google as it cannot prefer them to optimised links as they're losing that added level of insights given by the user.
in my mind, google is backing itself in a corner and has been for years when it comes to defining organic ranking factors. it used to be open in that you could optimise anchor text and grab whatever link you could but now it's closing this off and potentially handing out penalties to websites that abuse this.
so what's left, domain name? will the domain name lucky enough to have the right keywords in dominate the search results?
they should have stopped at panda and just penalized duplicate content, pengiun was a step too far i think... they should just rank by bounce rate and quality of content.

According to my knowledge Naked link is the link which is posted and visible in the text of a web page that directs to a web site. The link URL is fully visible to visitors. And you heard the truth, Naked URLs are the strongest signal to Google of a natural/organic inbound link profile and typically comprise the majority percentage of anchor text distribution in healthy websites.

A naked link is basically just a hyperlink with no anchor text. You could say that http://delhisoyamilk.in/ is a naked link. Naked links form a very, very important part of your backlink profile.
Google look for natural links posted by users – and most users won’t use anchor text when making links or references to your site, in fact virtually no one does. When users post a link back to your site on forums or on blog comments, they will almost always use a direct link – no anchor text at all.

Naked links are links where your website's URL is the anchor text. These links can make your link pattern look natural as you are not trying to optimize any keyword in few links. Most of the SEO guys just keep optimizing their 2-3 keywords.
Google love natural link pattern. Whatever makes your link pattern look natural is definitely a good thing !!
