You may want to use my duplicate content verifier to make sure that no one copies the content?

Duplicate content sucks, if you want to get good results in Google etc you need good quality content and then keep updating making sure you don't babble or go overboard.

Yep,

Orignial content = good
Duplicate contnet = bad

If you can't be bothered to create original content on a site you really don't need to have that site.

Duplicate content in the context of referrals to your original website AND in a limited amount would be (in my opinion) okay in the eyes of Google.

Then again, as what van gogh said, why create a new website only to use the same content? perhaps you could explain to us more in detail about the objectives of your new site in comparison to the old one.

NO don't do it. especially if you link the sites together then both will struggle. If you make a site which contains content that is already available - and search engines can spot this - then it will struggle

You can check this website for duplicate contents: www.copyscape.com

I found a lot of website through it who steal our content and use it for AdSense related websites.

Do multiple mod_rewrite rules for the same url count as duplicate content? I just realised i had 2 rules for the same page like this:

browse/page/0/some-subgroup ->browse.php?page=0&group=some-subgroup
browse/0/some-subgroup ->browse.php?page=0&group=some-subgroup

Both of the pages had links to them somewhere on the site - will this count as duplicate content?

Duplicate content will not get a site banned but will get a site filtered from the results pages and the site will never show up for more competitive search terms. Also other webmasters will be less likely to want to link to a site that is just a carbon copy of another site. So avoid duplicate content like the plague.
