New Platform ??

I have a website that is older and needs to get "freshened up"
although I have pretty good page rank...

I am working with a designer that is pushing me to take my html site to a Wordpress platform.

Is this going to hurt my google ratings ??

It could if they don't know what they are doing.

Wordpress has a different file structure system than what you are using currently.

Why switch to Wordpress? You have managed the way it is so far?

If you want a content management system instead of what you are doing now, there are other ways to implement it.

I do not want to switch to wordpress,,, like I said,
the designer is strongly recommending..

I can edit html, I have no idea of where to go or what to do in wordpress....

my vote is for staying with current and getting a template made to update...
but wanted other opinions,
I was not sure if changing platforms would help me or hurt me...from a SEO perspective.

Wordpress is not a magical fix for SEO. It all depends on how the designer handles the background coding and the different file system. The switch will show as no PageRank in the Google Toolbar (if you look at that) for a while.

Don't fix what ain't broken.

That being said, there are some background coding things you could do with what you have that when added up will improve the SEO of what you have.

When i was in real estate i had a buyer that came to me and told me he already had his lender picked out. The lender was trying to get them to jump thru a few hoops that were near impossible for them to do, but necessary for them to qualify for a conventional loan.

Weird part was... Everything about this buyer screamed "needs to go FHA loan"... But the lender of their selection kept pushing conventional and telling me why, despite all the objections i had... They really needed to go Conventional, not FHA.

Then it occurred to me. I asked the lender if they were certified to do FHA loans.

The answer was a sheepish "no". They couldn't generate an FHA loan.

You dont have to know anything about lending to understand why i told the buyer to fire his lender... Cause what they were doing was what THEY could do... The only way THEY could make money... Not what the buyer needed. Gotta watch for that.

If you are just worried about whether you be able to understand Wordpress or not - than worry not. Wordpress is far easierto use and customize.

Also, wordpress is better for SEO, comparing to a custom HTML/CSS website. But ensure that your designers knows what he is doing. Proper 301 redirects would be required to increase or even retain your rankings.

Why do you think that?
