How many keywords per page
.... when you optimise a page how many keywords do you optimise it for?

Keyword density is different for each search engine. According to me 3-5 keywords are sufficient on each page.

Keyword density doesn't really have a huge impact on rankings.

10-15 keywords per page. Their density should be around 5% of a total word count. They DO impact your rankings very much.

10 to 15 occurences, or 10 to 15 different keywords?
And no, they do not impact rankings very much, not in SERPs full of anchor text driven rankings.

I recently experimented with keyword density and onsite SEO and guess what? Got #2 spot in Google from #12 within next 2 days. The keyword I was optimizing for is going for $2-3 per click in AdWords. Thus, keyword factor on the page is still in place.

What keyword? What page? How isolated was the test? How many links does the page have? What are the anchor texts involved?

Google search for Translation Company gives me this:
1. www.atc.org.uk - keyword density 0%
2. www.betranslated.com - keyword density 0%
Which one of those was yours?

Um, don't see a screenshot. I'm checking the datacenters by IP right now. Not finding the datacenter that is throwing up the results you are finding, but the API has him at 2 and 3.

I have no doubt that he ranks for it. Even in the results I am seeing he is in the top ten.
But then he also stated:

That would seem to indicate that he thinks he got there because of keyword density.
However, many of the pages in the top ten do not even have one occurence of the keywords.
They are there because of anchor text of inbound links.
And our new friend has been a busy bee gathering 42,949 inbound links for that site, many of which have the anchor text "Translation Company".
With that many inbound links, and that many variations of related anchor texts, I really doubt that his on page optimization is having much impact at all. Not much positive impact at least.
