Bounce Rate describe your website's opening times. It shows how many times your websites opened by users. 70% bounce rate is seemed good but it has no benefit to your website. when the returning visitors ratio will up to 50% then you can get benefit from 70% bounce rate.

Bounce rate = Total number of visitors viewing one page / Total entries to page

You can get details about bounce rate from web analytic tools. You need to have bounce rate optimized for user perspective. The average bounce rate should be around 40%, if your website is performing good than that, you're in right direction in online business.

You should aim to make the landing page interesting enough to inspire readers to explore your site.

Btw, keep the bounce rate as low as possible.

Therefore, bounce rate has nothing to do with SEO as far as search engines go, directly.

That being said, if you have a high bounce rate it could,
a) indicate your page is so well written the users are finding their answers right away

b) indicate the opposite to a) and you need to improve your page content

c) indicate you are not answering your target audience's questions or needs which in turn means you are not going to earn any incoming links through social mentions and other word of mouth spreading of the information.

Bounce rate doesnít measure quick answers you get. You get the answer and leave, so it isnít a good metric for Google to use...

Bounce rate means nothing without context. And Google hasnít context in most cases, so I think Cutts was telling the truth about Google not using bounce rate for rankings...

Yeah thats true that above 30% is not good. but can you explain how to check bounce rate and how to reduce it? Is that means design is not good or the hosting issue for loading the site?

Bounce rate is the percentage of users who view only one page of your website and then leave the website. That is not good for your website.
