JohnScott,

what makes DP and v7n very different places? they seem rather similar to me. i participate in both, however much prefer v7n.

i find that webmasters and SEOs on DP put more emphasis on, on page optimization then in this forum.

i do liek that DP has a froogle section. ever think about adding one of those to v7n?

i have rotating links on my site. i think google knows all the links on there, becuase when i see the cached version it stil rotates through. either way they are links within my site so i am sure it doenst do much for me in terms of ranking in SERPs

Yes, but the issue is...

Are peek a boo (rotating) inbound links from external sites getting devalued? Either by penalty or increased value to long standing links, the effects are similar...(but not exactly the same--they have similar effects on your site, but not how you stack up against competitors--depending on how many non rotating links THEY have).

I would tend to believe that we are seeing incresed value to non peek a boo links and that is causing the shifts in some of the more competitive kw's.

Just my two cents....(worth about that.... )

Eric

It seems like it would be unfair for Google to make any kind of links cause a penalty. while some might be valued as 'higher quality' then others, they cannot be penalizing you for a link. Think about it... all you would have to do is find out what causes a penalty and do that with your competitor's links.

anyone can make a link on their site to any site, which is why some links can help positively, but no links can be harmful.

By 'penalty', I mean 'reducing the relative value in comparison with other inbound links. I agree that Google cannot put a negative value on a link (or we'd see the exact scenario you describe and I'd be the first to do it...), but they CAN make the link worth little or nothing...
