How much do you charge for your SEO services? Do you charge hourly, monthly, or project based?

I'm not going to get into what I do since it's often different based on the client's needs.

But I tell them exactly what I'm doing if they ask. And in as much detail as they want (and I charge them for that).

Afterall, it's their site!

You just need to be careful when chosing your clients. Some of them are more trouble than they're worth. If they have unrealistic expectations and seem too controlling, I usually quote them an amount they'll be sure to turn down and then refer them to someone else.

For SEO? Because it's not necessary (for me). I get all of my biddness through word of mouth. And if I had an SEO site I would have to SEO it for SEO. And that wouldn't be fun....or worthwhile.

I have a buttload of other sites but not for my SEO services.

Why would you feel you'd have to rank for "SEO"? Couldn't you just brand yourself as the best SEO in Illinois, and rank for "Illinois SEO" or something similar, and that shouldn't be too difficult.

I know an SEO who used to brag about being in the top ten for "ethical economical search engine optimization".

But now he doesn't even rank for that. Kind of sad.

But yeah, you don't need to rank a site for "seo" just because it's an SEO site.

Like I said, it's not necessary. I turn away business. If I needed to drum up new leads I would definitely consider it. But right now there are more profitable/worthwhile things to spend my time on. Like getting my handicap below 10!

The first thing I ask the people who call me selling SEO is, "Oh, what is your website address? Let's see where you rank for the services you provide."

Now, just because they don't rank well for "SEO" doesn't mean they can't do a good job (calling me does). I know that but John Q. Public from the $6bn company down the street probably wont!

Separate issue though, I think you're not really saying you don't want a site because it's too hard to rank for 'SEO' but because you don't need more clients.
